*Not Defiled Their Garments!*

*"Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy."* (Revelation 3:4)

The book of Revelation is full of powerful lessons for believers.

In Revelation 3:4, Jesus commends the church in Sardis for having a few individuals who remained faithful despite the prevailing spiritual apathy.

These individuals "have not defiled their garments," meaning they didn't compromise their values or purity in the midst of a corrupt environment. This speaks to the importance of standing firm in one's faith, even when it's unpopular or challenging.

In today's world, it's easy to get caught up in the cultural tide and compromise our values. But Jesus' words offer a powerful reminder that our actions have consequences. When we choose to live according to God's principles, we demonstrate our worthiness to walk with Him. This isn't about earning salvation, but about living in a way that honors our relationship with Christ.

So, what can we learn from this verse? We can learn the importance of being faithful and uncompromising in our walk with God. We can also learn that our actions matter, and that living a life of integrity and purity is pleasing to Him.

*Don't Get Complacent About Your Faith!*

*"Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee."* (Revelation 3:3)


The church in Sardis - a community that seemed to be sleeping on its laurels. They had a reputation for being alive, but in reality, they were spiritually dead. Jesus' words to them are a wake-up call to all believers. He reminds them to "remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent." In other words, don't get complacent about your faith. Don't let your guard down or get too comfortable. Instead, hold onto the truth you've received and keep moving forward in repentance.

The lesson here is clear: spiritual vigilance is key. Jesus warns that if they don't watch, He'll come upon them like a thief in the night - unexpectedly and without warning. It's a call to be prepared, to stay alert, and to prioritize one's relationship with God. This isn't just about the church in Sardis; it's about each of us as individuals.

The question is, are you watching? Are you aware of the state of your spiritual life? Don't assume you're okay just because you've been through the motions for a while. Take a step back, assess your heart, and make sure you're holding fast to your faith. The Lord's return is imminent, and we don't know when He'll come. Let's make sure we're ready, living with our hearts fully surrendered to Him.

*Ready to die!*

*"Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God."* (Revelation 3:2)


Let's dive into Revelation 3:2. Jesus is speaking to the church in Sardis, and His message is a wake-up call. He tells them to "be watchful" and "strengthen the things which remain."

It's like He's saying, "Hey, you're almost there, but you're on the verge of losing it." Their works, their passion, and their commitment to God are fading away, and Jesus wants them to take action to revive what's left.

The phrase "ready to die" is quite stark. It's a warning that if they don't take immediate action, their spiritual lives will wither away. Jesus notes that He hasn't found their works "perfect before God." It's not about being flawless, but about being faithful and wholehearted in their devotion to God. They're going through the motions, but their hearts aren't fully invested.

*A living name but a dead faith*

*"And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead."* (Revelation 3:1)

*ACCORDING TO OUR WORKS*

*"And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works."* (Revelation 2:23)
