OFFICIAL: Bernardo Silva will leave the club at the end of the season

According to Manchester City official announcement, Bernardo Silva, the 31-year-old Portuguese midfielder, will leave the club at the end of the season after 9 years of representing the Blue Moon.

Manchester City Official Announcement:
Manchester City can confirm Bernardo Silva will leave the Club this summer.

The Portuguese playmaker joined City in 2017 and has gone on to make 451 appearances during a glorious nine-year stay with the Blues.

The 31-year-old’s contribution to our greatest sustained period of success is incalculable.

To date, he has won 19 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, two FA Cup triumphs, five Carabao Cup successes, three Community Shields, a FIFA Club World Cup and a UEFA Super Cup winner’s medal, with Bernardo most latterly captaining the Club to 2026 Carabao Cup glory against Arsenal.

Alongside that phenomenal trophy haul, a tally of 76 goals and 77 assists further illustrate Bernardo’s magnificent all-round contribution to the City cause.

He recently moved into the top 10 of all-time City appearance holders, overtaking a host of other notable former players, including David Silva, Paul Power and Willie Donachie.

Bernardo will now focus on seeking to try and ensure his remaining time at City ends with even more silverware, with Pep Guardiola’s side still very much in the hunt to win both the Premier League title and the FA Cup.

In short, he will be deservedly remembered both as one of City’s finest and most popular players of all time.

OFFICIAL: Head coach Javier Mascherano departs Inter Miami CF

Inter Miami have officially announced that Head Coach Javier Mascherano is leaving the team .

OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
Mascherano led Inter Miami to its historic MLS Cup title and record-breaking 2025 season

Inter Miami CF head coach Javier Mascherano announced today his decision to step down as the Club’s head coach for personal reasons.

“I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the Club for the trust they placed in me, every employee who is part of the organization for the collective effort, but especially the players, who made it possible for us to experience unforgettable moments.

I also want to thank the fans and La Familia, because none of this would have been possible without them.

I will always carry with me the memory of our first star, and wherever I am, I will continue to wish the Club all the best moving forward. I have no doubt that the Club will continue to achieve success in the future.

Sending you all a big hug, and thank you for everything,” said Mascherano.

“Javier will forever be part of this Club’s history and will always hold a special place in the Inter Miami CF family. Not only for being a key part of unforgettable achievements, such as winning the MLS Cup and the team’s historic performance at the Club World Cup, but also for the example he set through his dedication and daily work leading the team. We respect his decision and are deeply grateful for everything he contributed, wishing him nothing but the very best in his professional and personal future,” said Managing Owner Jorge Mas.

In his first season at the helm, Mascherano guided Inter Miami to one of the most successful campaigns in Club history, securing two major trophies, including the Club’s first ever MLS Cup title, along with the Eastern Conference championship. Under his leadership, the team delivered a record breaking 2025 season, scoring a combined 101 goals across regular season and postseason play, the most in a single season in MLS history, including a postseason record 20 goals, while competing in an unprecedented 58 matches across all competitions.

On the international stage, Inter Miami made history during its participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, becoming the first MLS side to reach the knockout rounds of the competition. The Club also became the first Concacaf team to defeat European opposition in an official international match and the first team from the United States to earn a victory in the tournament.

Regionally, Inter Miami reached the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup and advanced to its second Leagues Cup final in just its third appearance in the competition.

Mascherano departs the Club along with the coaching staff that arrived with him in January 2024.

Guillermo Hoyos will assume the role of First Team head coach for the upcoming matches. Hoyos is a former professional footballer with more than 20 years of playing experience, as well as a coach and sporting director with extensive international experience in the fútbol world. He has managed clubs in various countries including Argentina, Mexico, Chile, Bolivia (where he also served as national team head coach), Greece, and Cyprus. He also has experience in youth development, including his time at FC Barcelona. Since joining Inter Miami CF, he has been responsible for overseeing and advancing the Club’s professional pathway development structure, while also serving as sporting director up to now.

At the same time, Chief Soccer Officer Alberto Marrero assumes, as of today, the duties of sporting director of Inter Miami CF.

Yamal relishing responsibility of leading Barcelona's Champions League comeback

Lamine Yamal insisted Barcelona's hopes of reaching the Champions League semi-final does not all depend on him, but the winger is happy to take responsibility against Atletico Madrid.

Barca lost their last-eight first leg 2-0 at Camp Nou last week, with Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth getting on the scoresheet following a red card to Pau Cubarsi.

The Blaugrana's 2-0 defeat to Atleti was the 195th time in European Cup/Champions League history a team has lost the first leg of a knockout stage tie at home by 2+ goals.

Only two of the previous 194 have progressed to the next round – Manchester United against Paris Saint-Germain in 2018-19 and Ajax against Benfica in 1968-69.

Yamal leads all Barcelona players for successful dribbles (37) and total shots (32) in UEFA's flagship competition this season.

Meanwhile, no player has created more chances for the club than the 18-year-old (20), while only Fermin Lopez (10) has been involved in more goals (nine – five goals, four assists).

The teenager praised the ability of his team-mates, but insisted he is unfazed by the pressure placed on his shoulders.

"Luckily, I'm playing for Barcelona and we have a lot of quality," said Yamal.

"I don't think it all depends on me, and even if it did, I wouldn't mind. But I have faith in my team.

"From a young age, I've taken on more responsibilities than I should have. I'm used to it. I don't see it as a problem, but as a strength. I appreciate the trust my colleagues place in me."

Barca have come under criticism for their style of play this season, with their high line indirectly leading to Cubarsi's dismissal last week.

Hansi Flick, however, does not believe his tactics make things easier for Atleti.

"I'm not worried; it's our style of play," said the Barca head coach.

"We can defend better, but it all depends on the team. Everyone on the team needs to be involved and connected, and defend as a unit.

"Without the ball, we have to close down space and be more compact; that's how we want to play football.

"There are many situations where we've done very well. And we're capable of scoring goals."

Lamine Yamal: "My new Instagram profile picture? I put LeBron James... LeBron is one of the figures who can inspire me for tomorrow’s game, and that’s why I chose him”.

"I’ll think about how he did the comeback and hopefully I can do the same”. 🙌🏽

Behind legends: the birth of Barcelona’s ‘MSN’ era

The numbers were ridiculous. Goals, assists, trophies — stacked to a level that borders on parody. It almost feels obscene that Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez were allowed to line up together, at the peak of their powers, at Barcelona.

But numbers alone don’t explain why it worked the way it did. They don’t capture the feeling.

You look at the base ingredients today, with hindsight, and it feels like world domination was inevitable.

Neymar is Brazil’s all-time top goalscorer, the most eye-catching, dazzlingly talented player of the post-Messi & Ronaldo generation. He was winning Puskas awards and being named on Ballon d’Or shortlists when he was a youngster at Santos.

Suarez arrived fresh from one of the greatest individual campaigns any player has had in English football history. Steven Gerrard recently named the Uruguayan as his greatest-ever team-mate.

There’s little left to say about Messi’s legacy. Only 18 months before Suarez’s arrival, he’d scored 91 goals in a calendar year. He was just 23 when the likes of Arsene Wenger were already declaring him the greatest footballer in history.

Luis Enrique is now widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the world, having led PSG to the treble with a hardworking team built in his image. It’s the second he’s won in Europe.

Surely, you stick that all together and greatness was always in their destiny? Rewind to January 2015, and that looked anything but the case.

Luis Enrique was under great pressure in his first season in charge of Barcelona. It was his first elite-level job, and he still had everything to prove at that stage of his coaching career.

The former Barca midfielder had struggled at Roma, done a decent but not especially spectacular job at Celta Vigo, and his combative, uncompromising manner led to a frosty reception from the infamously hypercritical Catalan press.

Neymar had shown plenty of promise in his debut season, but it ended without any major silverware.

He struggled with injuries, and a question lingered over his ability to adapt to the physicality and speed of the European game.

The talent was unquestionable, but he’d been overshadowed by the considerably more powerful Gareth Bale over in the capital.

Suarez had just bitten Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup. Regardless of the lengthy ban that ran into the early months of the 2014-15 season, his signing came shrouded in controversy – not least for a mammoth transfer fee. Would such a volatile character upset the apple cart?

Messi, of course, was Messi. But there was a prevailing sense that the Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu presidencies were failing to build a team worthy of his talents, especially in the wake of Real Madrid looking ominously relentless in the six months following La Decima.

People were genuinely talking up Carlo Ancelotti’s side as Madrid’s greatest-ever. If any team looked like winning a treble midway through that season, it sure wasn’t Barcelona.

They won 18 of their first 21 outings in La Liga, including a resounding 3-1 victory over Barca, and carried a record 22-match winning streak into the new year.

Barcelona’s ‘MSN’ trident hadn’t exactly hit the ground running. Suarez eventually made his long-awaited debut in El Clasico in late October and offered a hint of what was to come by assisting Neymar after just four minutes.

But Madrid fought back to win 3-1 at the Bernabeu, taking advantage of a Barcelona side that lacked balance with their new superstar frontline.

The three of them started the following week against Celta Vigo and drew a blank in a 1-0 defeat in Galicia.

Suarez believes the start of Barcelona’s golden ‘MSN’ era really began with a 2-0 victory over Ajax, bouncing back from those back-to-back La Liga defeats.

“Against Ajax, Luis Enrique wanted Messi as a false nine since he was used in that role,” Suarez recalled in a podcast appearance back in 2023.

“Neymar and I were on the flanks, but Messi saw that it didn’t work & told me: ‘Oi Gordo, stay in the No.9 position & I’ll open the pitch for you on the right side.'”

Far be it from us to contradict Suarez, but it would be a while yet before the ‘MSN’ were really flying. Suarez is right about the tactical machinations and positioning, but the timeline doesn’t quite match up.

Form remained sketchy with a goalless draw at Getafe, while Luis Enrique paid the price for resting Messi and Neymar – who couldn’t rescue things off the bench – as Barcelona kicked off 2025 with a 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad.

On paper, Barca had assembled the most fearsome attack in European football history. But they were somehow failing to score goals and paying the price for it.

There were hints of their potential, with all three scoring in a Champions League group stage victory over PSG, but put simply this was not yet a functioning team.

‘Are Barcelona suffering from an identity crisis under Luis Enrique?’ read one headline in ESPN published on Christmas Eve 2014.

That seems wild now, but it was a reasonable taking of the temperature at the time.

“As one commentator put it: ‘the best thing we can say about 2014 is that it is over,'” noted writer Sid Lowe.

“The problem is that, right now, 2015 doesn’t look likely to be much better. Last season ended without any trophies; the fear is that next season will too.

“Worse still, some have decided, Barcelona are just not Barcelona.”

The Catalans were four points behind Madrid at the halfway stage of the 2014-15 season. Reigning La Liga champions Atletico Madrid were level on points and defeat to Diego Simeone’s rugged band of upstarts might’ve seen Luis Enrique sacked in early January. The era might have ended before it even began.

But it was in that game that everything changed. From that point on, they never looked back.

Neymar opened the scoring after just 12 minutes. Set up by Suarez. Twenty minutes later it was the Uruguayan on the scoresheet, with Messi acting provider. Mario Mandzukic fired back for Atleti midway through the second half, but Messi sealed all three points in the closing stages.

As Messi wheeled away to celebrate, he was joined arm-in-arm by Suarez and Neymar. All three absolutely jubilant. Their beaming grins were captured for eternity by the pitchside photographers.

The image inevitably made the front pages of Spain’s sports dailies, as well as the likes of L’Equipe and Gazzetta dello Sport across Europe. It received over 300,000 likes on Barcelona’s Instagram page, back when that was a massive number.

The symbolism was clear. The ‘MSN’ era was born that night. Not only did Barcelona boast three of the finest forwards on the planet, but they were linking up superbly and getting the best out of one another.

They even developed strong bonds away from the pitch, with Messi and Suarez especially tight to this day.

A 3-1 victory, a massive three points, but most importantly a superb performance. Not only did Neymar, Suarez and Messi all get on the scoresheet, but Luis Enrique had nailed the foundations of a brilliant, unstoppable team.

The same 10 outfielders would start their treble-capping 3-1 Champions League final victory over Juventus five months later.

The key shift was dropping an ageing Xavi Hernandez, the tiki-taka symbol of the glorious Pep Guardiola era, for Ivan Rakitic.

The Croatian midfielder wasn’t anywhere near as tidy a passer as Xavi – he couldn’t run a game – but his tireless running and boundless physicality offered the perfect balance behind the front three and alongside old Pep stalwarts Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta.

Luis Enrique’s Barcelona, defined by that front three, turned into an all-conquering juggernaut in the months that followed.

They turned over Atleti twice more in the Copa del Rey quarters. Scorelines of fours, fives, sixes and even eights were routinely racked up as Barca went on to win 16 of their last 19 in the league. Man City, PSG, Bayern Munich and Juve were all put to the sword in Europe.

The collective stats of Messi, Neymar and Suarez were utterly outrageous. With a combined 451 games together, they produced 363 goals and 272 assists.

There’s a good chance we’ll never see such a fearsome attack ever again. It all started with that celebration in that win over Atletico.

It’s not often that a team, a historic treble-winning season, and a whole era can be summed up by one photograph. But legacies aren’t built in trophy lifts alone.

Sometimes, they live in a single frame — one that tells you everything about who they were, and why they’ll never be replicated.

Neymar begins preparations for his next transfer

At 34, Neymar is preparing one final push this summer to make Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad.

For now, his chances remain slim, although Carlo Ancelotti is watching him closely. The former Paris Saint-Germain player, often injured, has 3 goals and 3 assists in 6 games for Santos this season.

A club he may soon leave. Overnight, The Athletic revealed that Ney and his entourage are in talks with Cincinnati.

The Major League Soccer franchise, which had courted Thomas Muller in 2025, is now making a move for the Brazilian star, who is under contract with Santos through December 2026.

The American club and the Neymar camp are only in the early stages of talks, but they are discussing a transfer.

There is still a long way to go to finalize the deal, especially since Cincinnati does not have a designated player spot and will therefore need to make room to accommodate Neymar.

Ronaldo at centre of Saudi league CHEATING claims as Toney make accusations

Ivan Toney has launched a scathing attack on the integrity of officiating in the Saudi Pro League as one of his Al-Ahli team-mates suggested they are attempting to 'hand the trophy' to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Toney was among Al-Ahli players to hit out at refereeing decisions following Al-Ahli's 1-1 draw against Al-Fayha on Wednesday.

The result leaves Al-Ahli in third position in the table, two points behind Ronaldo's Al-Nassr side, who top the standings and have a game in hand.

Toney, who scored his 27th goal of the season in the draw, claimed his side were denied several penalties against Al-Fayha.

The England international alleged that when he and his Al-Ahli team-mates had attempted to talk to the referee, they were told to instead focus on the AFC Champions League.

‘I think the very big talking point was the two penalties, it is as clear as day,' Toney said in a post-match interview. 'I don’t know what more you want him to do, if you pick the ball up with two hands are you going to give a penalty or not?

'When we tried to talk to the referee, he told us to ‘focus on the AFC [Champions League]. How can the referee say this? We are talking about now and he is saying to focus on the AFC.

'If you want me to go deeper, I can go deeper, it might get me into trouble but I am a man that says it how it is. There are clear talking points with the referee, but his mind is elsewhere.

'Throughout the season, it was a clear penalty but now we get to the crunch time and they change it.'

When asked who would benefit from the decisions, Toney laughed and replied: ‘We know who, who are we chasing?’ in a possible reference to Ronaldo.

Toney later doubled down on social media by sharing videos of three penalty appeals during the match and claimed 'it is clear what is being influenced here'.

'It's actually crazy how you can miss things like this in crucial moments or chose to turn a blind eye. It's clear what is being influenced here.

'Also with the referee telling us to concentrate on a different competition while VAR is going on is beyond me.

'Add to that with the referee agreeing that the first one was a penalty in the 90+ minute like that’s going to help.

'I am probably the bad guy for speaking some truths and pointing out questionable decisions or s*** refereeing.'

Toney's team-mate Galeno added to the controversy, alleging the Saudi Pro League wants to 'hand the trophy to one person'.

'Hand over the trophy, that's what they want, they want to knock us out of the championship by any means necessary, they want to hand the trophy to one person, a total lack of respect for our club,' he wrote on social media.

Both players were backed by Al-Ahli, who urged the league to release recordings between the officials and their players during the match and demanded explanations over the refereeing decisions.

'Al Ahli club company expresses its deep dissatisfaction with the refereeing errors that affected today's match of the first football team against Al Fayha in round 29 of the Saudi Roshn League,' a club statement read. 'The referee's decisions had a direct impact on the flow of the game and its final outcome, which in turn affected the team's position in the title race.

'Such errors raise legitimate concerns regarding the referee selection process and the criteria applied, particularly given the high technical and competitive level of the Saudi Roshn League.

'The team has faced unfair refereeing decisions, an unacceptable situation that neither serves the development of the competition nor upholds the principle of competitive fairness, which must be the foundation of any successful tournament.

'Al-Ahli club company calls for access to the recordings and communications between the referees and the video assistant referee (VAR), as well as their interactions with the team's players during the match. It also requests clear explanations for all refereeing incidents where decisions were not correctly made.

'In closing, Al Ahli club company reaffirms its confidence in the commitment of the relevant authorities to safeguarding the integrity of the competition and taking the necessary practical steps that reflect the high standing the Saudi Roshn League has reached.'

Ronaldo's Al-Nassr are currently two points clear at the top of the Saudi Pro League with seven matches remaining of their league campaign.

Should Al-Nassr go on to be crowned champions, it would be the first league title Ronaldo has won in four seasons at the club.

Barcelona is considering appealing to UEFA over Pubill's handball

According to Spanish media Què T'hi Jugues, Barcelona is considering appealing to UEFA regarding Pubill's handball.

When talking about Pubill's handball, the media said, the rules are clear and definite, but the referee did not blow the whistle, and VAR did not intervene. All of this has made Barcelona furious, and the team is considering making a formal appeal to UEFA regarding the Romanian referee István Kovács's decision, while the VAR was overseen by the German Christian Dingert at the time.

Barcelona will have to face the derby next, and then the second leg of the quarter-finals at the Metropolitano Stadium. The Blaugrana hope to "forget" all the unpleasantness of the first leg as soon as possible, as this match has caused strong dissatisfaction among fans. Flick himself also strongly criticized VAR for not reviewing Pubill's handball in the penalty area.

Flick will protect 'unbelievable' Yamal from outside noise
Hansi Flick will always protect "unbelievable" Lamine Yamal after he came under scrutiny for an angry reaction during Barcelona's win over Atletico Madrid at the weekend.

Barca secured a 2-1 victory over Atletico on Saturday to move seven points clear at the top of LaLiga with eight games to play, with Robert Lewandowski scoring an 87th-minute winner.

However, Yamal did not celebrate that goal and was seen still looking frustrated at full-time.

Local media reports suggested the teenager was upset by an exchange he had with coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente on the sidelines.

Flick brushed off any concerns over Yamal's behaviour, asking for the 18-year-old to not be put under a microscope as he continues to learn his trade.

"Lamine is an unbelievable player," Flick said when asked if Lamine's conversation with De la Fuente had been the source of his discontent.

"But he's only 18. And, of course, sometimes he's angry when I change him or maybe when he dribbles past four, five players and then shoots, and he misses [like against Atletico]. Sometimes it's for him also frustrating he didn't score this goal.

"He's emotional and [that's] good. I will always support him. He is a fantastic player, on the right way, and we are helping him to develop in the right space. It's not good to make this noise around everything he's doing.

"I know everyone is looking to him because he's a fantastic player. But he's only 18. Every one of us makes mistakes. I said [to him] you can [try things], no problem, I will always protect you.

"And on the pitch, he has to show everyone how good he is; that he will be one of the best, maybe the best player of the future."

Barcelona will face Atletico again in the Champions League quarter-finals, with the first leg taking place at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

Barca are unbeaten in their last 25 games against Atletico at Camp Nou across all competitions (W17 D8), with their last defeat coming in February 2006, when Atleti were managed by Pepe Murcia (1-3 defeat in LaLiga).

This will be the fifth meeting between the sides this season, with Barcelona coming out on top in three of those, including their last home match – a 3-0 win in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg, though they lost the tie 4-3 on aggregate.

Flick has the best win percentage by any manager with ten or more games in the Champions League (73.8% – 31/42), as well as the best win percentage in knockout-stage matches (min. 10 games) in the competition (70.6% – 12/17).

The Champions League is the only trophy Barcelona have not lifted during Flick's tenure so far, and he is determined to take his team one step closer against Atletico.

"It's different [to Saturday's game] because the Champions League is the best competition in the world," Flick added.

"Everyone wants to give their best. Everyone wants to win. It's a good opportunity for everyone to show that this week.

"We have our style and how we want to play. We have to focus on that. When we don't do that, when we don't press, for the opponent it's easier to find the right space
