NIGER TORNADOES FC COMMISERATES WITH RIVERS UNITED FC OVER ROAD ACCIDENT

Niger Tornadoes Football Club has received with concern the news of the road accident involving players and officials of Rivers United FC while they were travelling to Awka, Anambra State, for their President Federation Cup Round of 16 fixture against Nasarawa United FC.

The Management, technical crew, players and supporters of Niger Tornadoes FC are deeply relieved that there were no fatalities resulting from the incident. We thank Almighty God for His protection and extend our heartfelt sympathies to those who sustained injuries.

We wish all affected players and officials a speedy and full recovery and hope they return to action stronger and in good health. Incidents such as this remind us of the challenges clubs face while travelling across the country in pursuit of football excellence.

Niger Tornadoes FC stands in solidarity with Rivers United FC during this difficult moment and prays for the continued safety of all players, officials and stakeholders involved in Nigerian football.

TORNADOES BEAT THE DROP ON THE FINAL DAY THROUGH ABDULRASHEED DABAI'S SOLITARY GOAL

In what was an intriguing and dramatic end to the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season in Minna, Niger Tornadoes survived a late scare to secure their top-flight status, thanks to a decisive penalty goal from one of the club’s leading scorers, Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai, after a keenly contested encounter against Shooting Stars, who were chasing a continental ticket.

The stadium was filled to capacity, while the weather remained calm following heavy rainfall earlier in the day. With contrasting ambitions at stake, Niger Tornadoes battling to avoid relegation and the visitors aiming for a continental slot, the game lived up to expectations from kickoff.

The encounter started at an electrifying pace, with Tornadoes dominating much of the first-half proceedings, Isaac Jerry was barely called into action as the Ikon Allah Boys maintained sustained pressure on the visitors.

The breakthrough eventually came in the 41st minute when a Shooting Stars defender handled the ball inside the penalty area, leaving the referee with no option but to point to the spot. Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai calmly converted the penalty to give Niger Tornadoes a deserved lead before the break.

The second half saw Tornadoes create more scoring opportunities but fail to extend their advantage. Despite the slim scoreline, the hosts held firm until the final whistle to secure a crucial victory and preserve their NPFL status.

Post-Match Reaction

Niger Tornadoes Technical Adviser, Majin Mohammed, who appeared highly emotional during his post-match interview, commended his players for their bravery and determination in securing the vital win. He also appreciated the fans and supporters for their unflinching support throughout the season.

Majin expressed satisfaction at guiding the team to safety despite what he described as a turbulent campaign, during which the team struggled for points both at home and away.

The result means Niger Tornadoes finished the season in 13th position on the NPFL table with 48 points, successfully retaining their top-flight status.
