Manchester United need midfielders more than attackers right now. Missing out on Semenyo is painful, no doubt, but the real issue lies in the middle of the park. Without control, energy, and balance in midfield, even the best attackers will struggle to influence games consistently.
With the right midfielders in place, players like Cunha, Amad, Mbeumo, and Mount are more than capable of doing the business. They have the movement, creativity, and finishing quality to hurt teams, but they need a solid platform behind them to thrive.
United should focus on signing Elliott Anderson and Baleba to add energy, ball progression, and defensive stability, along with one proper wing-back who can provide width and intensity on the flank. Switching to a 4-3-3 formation would allow better structure, improved ball retention, and greater control of matches. That said, if Amorim gets the right midfielders, even his 3-4-3 can work — he clearly believes in it and I’m not against the idea, just against forcing it with the wrong profiles.
Not sure Anderson or Baleba are available in January, but that shouldn’t stop us. The work for those deals has to start NOW. Get ahead of rivals, line it up for summer and stop reacting late like we always do.
