Lionel Scaloni was hired by Argentina as caretaker manager until they found a permanent coach for the job.

The decision did not sit well with the Argentinian football fraternity. Many criticised the choice of Scaloni, including the legendary Diego Maradona, who said:
“He can’t even direct traffic, how come he will direct the national team. Have we all gone mad?”

The performance of this man at the ongoing FIFA 2022 world cup has all but confirmed the trajectory that football has taken in the last 6 years and is to take for the next millennium, the era of having to be a flare player to be a number 10 is officially over.

Football in the middle of the pitch is now played with strength, team work, pace etc, the likes of Mesut Ozil and James Rodriguez are one of the first few players to be faced with this reality
