THIS COMPETITION WILL NO DOUBT UNITE THE PEOPLE OF GOMBE: Rev Phanuel Lasobok (Deputy Chairman of Billiri LGA)
The Deputy Chairman of Billiri LGA, Rev Phanuel Lasobok has described the Dan Majen Gombe football competition as a tool that will unite the people and bring about peaceful coexistence among the people of Gombe State.
Rev. Lasobok who represented the chairperson of Billiri Local Government, made this statement while speaking during the draws of the competition at the Local Government secretariat on Thursday.
He commended the vision of the organisers, who he said is in tandem with His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's program for youth development.
''This competition will no doubt unite the people of Gombe because in football, there is no religion or tribal differences''
While assuring that the local government administration will provide enabling environment for peaceful competition, he prayed that the competition will be the key required that will see players from the region in the future playing for professional clubs especially Gombe United.
''I used to go to Gombe and watch Gombe United, and I noticed that none of the players are from Tangale Waja despite the numerous talents that abound here. I hope this competition will showcase the talents here and I believe they will progress and play one day for Gombe United''
Earlier speaking, the chairman of technical committee of the competition, Mallam Suleiman A. Cheldu said that football is no more a recreation but business, as such, players and coaches shouldn't see the competition as just an ordinary football competition, stating that the aim of Dan Majen Gombe Football Competition is to fish out talent from grassroot then market them to clubs in and around the country.
The draw which was made of two teams from each of the ten wards produce intriguing fixtures with Billiri North A against Tanglang B and Tal A tackling Bare B. as some of the mouthwatering fixtures.
