Antony on Betis redemption: "I'm happy" after painful Manchester United exit
Antony has opened up on his career revival at Real Betis, revealing his newfound happiness has been the key to rediscovering his best form after a turbulent spell at Manchester United.
"It's simple to answer that today: I'm happy... being myself, being happy and enjoying what I love most, which is playing football, makes everything easier," the Brazilian told Transfermarkt.
He finished last season with 14 goals and 10 assists in 46 appearances, helping Betis qualify for the Champions League for just the second time in the club's history.
On his difficult United exit, Antony reflected fondly on scoring on his home debut alongside Cristiano Ronaldo: "Playing at home, in front of more than 70,000 people, was incredible for me... experiencing that moment alongside Cristiano was something that will surely stay in the story of my life forever."
He also offered advice to former teammate Marcus Rashford amid his own uncertain United future: "The most important thing is that he is happy."
Antony was also overlooked for Brazil's World Cup squad despite his strong club form, but remained pragmatic: "I have to do my job and keep working to be in the national team."
Betis, now under Manuel Pellegrini, face a stern Champions League test against Real Madrid on September 4 following a mixed start to their LaLiga campaign.
