Each project I have been privileged to lead left me better than I was when I started it.
So beyond the growth in capacity that comes with it, a certain character virtue is formed in me, sometimes it is patience and the reason is simple, you will meet team members whose attitudes can push you to the wall and because you know that certain things canโt be said of you, you just have to be โPatience.โ
Sometimes it is to be more empathetic, softer, kinder, etc.
For me, amidst the capacity being built, the character virtues being formed, the next for me is the well of people I get to meet.
The truth is, certain leadership positions puts you on a different pedestal from every other person.
Working with brands, thought leaders, and conveners as their project manager is not just a job title, I see it as a privileged leadership role and the reason is simple, I get to have access to many people, stakeholders, other team members that those under me canโt access or may access but will hardly have anything tangible to do with them.
I get to join meetings that ordinarily, I canโt join but because of my role, I have that access and privilege.
So, when people hire me to work with them as their project and corporate event manager, it goes beyond delivering my job with them, itโs always a privilege to increase my network.
Now let me flip it to you, in what you currently do, are you at the bottom of the ladder or does your job puts you in rooms where those you need may be in?
I am not saying this to make you want to leave your job, I am saying it to open your mind to what you should start thinking about.
There are roles that can only keep you at the bottom of the pyramid and thatโs not what you want or where you want to be and if you are currently there now, start thinking, โHow can you step up as fast as possible?โ
And start taking actions in that direction. Let this post be a wake up call to your thinking and envisioning.
I hope it truly does that.
I am Rooting For You.
