New rules coming into effect in the 2026/27 season for the Premier League include penalties for time-wasting during restart of play. Teams taking too long over goal kicks will see them turned into corner kicks. Equally, throw-ins not taken promptly will be awarded to the opposing team. The rules also mandate that substituted players leave the pitch within 10 seconds. Failure to comply will mean their substitute cannot enter the game for 60 seconds, leaving their team with one less player on the field until the substitute is allowed to enter.
