Do you ever feels that everything progress much slower once you hit 40s? You are definitely not alone! There are a few factors that contributed to this change:
1) hormonal shift
- our hormones changes as we aged and this shift influences fat storage, especially around the mid section. Also, the body becomes less efficient at processing carbs, leading to higher insulin level, signalling body to store fat

2) Sarcopenia
- muscles are metabolically active and burns more calories at rest than fat does. Our body begins to lose muscle mass naturally starting in the 30s so when muscle mass decreases, our BMR decreases as well

3) reduce in NEAT
- life is 40s is challenging with work, parenting and etc. therefore, we usually become more sedentary when we turn 40s

How do we solve this?
- increase protein intake as it’s the building block for building muscles
- ⁠engage in resistance training (hypertrophy) to build muscle in order to improve BMR
