Once upon a time head to head with the football giants! Malaysia vs Brasil 2002

The first VAR for the match KL City FC vs NSFC Malaysia. After watched and analysed the VAR, The referee has showed Red card to Brendan Gan. I edited the video source from the internet to see what exactly happened in that split moment that catch the referee’s eyes and to give a red card to Brendan. Sorry for the low quality video but hope this will be good enough to see what happened.

Brendan(88) went for the duel for the ball with two NSFC players where one player from the left(16) and one player on the right(14) of Brendan. Clearly it’s 50-50 in between Brendan and player jersey no14. Brendan attempted for the ball and the no14 did not attempt to touch the ball instead his left leg stepped beside the ball which seems the ball to rolling in between no16 legs. As I watched, Brendan is attempting the ball where he manage to poke the ball away to avoid losing the ball to the opponent in that duel. While that’s happening, no14 is charging towards Brendan, narrowing his space so Brendan not to be comfortable position to win the duel.

Till then, no one is hurt. After the ball was kicked by Brendan, I saw no16 body position is changing direction as if he intended to turn after he realised that he lost the duel. This part, where no16 was in speed action and changing his direction where his right leg stepped on Brendan’s right leg which Brendan reacted by jumping and at the same time avoiding further collision with no16 and no14. Other than that, I don’t see other knock happened but maybe there is another collision happened while Brendan in flying on the air which was not be seen in the video. (His Super Fast!)

So, the Red card given at point of Brendan kicked the ball till he went flying and dropped on the ground.

Why he got the card?

1) Brendan poke the ball away, was that caused the card to be shown?
Maybe, as the action in fast movement seems like he going in robus and dangerous but then in slow motion.. he did what he what other players will do.

2) Brendan got stepped on his foot by no16 and jumped while also getting pressed by no14. Then ended up flying and falling on the ground few feets away. Then no16 fell holding his stomach after he fell. (If a knock happened when Brendan flying, its should be on his back in this situation right?) 🤪

For my conclusion, the red card most probably caused by reason the No.1 where in normal speed it looks like Brendan went in robus and dangerous but in slow motion, Brendan win duel by poking the ball while no16 just want to sheild the ball or stop Brendan from getting the ball in his control.

Whatever said and done, This just my opinion why the Red card was given.
The final decision has been made.

Happy Footballing!!
