Bangkit dari ketinggalan 2-5, bintang Filipina Alex Eala mara ke suku akhir Terbuka Birmingham! Jom sokong wakil ASEAN kita menentang pemain Thailand esok! 🇵🇭🇹🇭🎾
Alex Eala staged a remarkable comeback from 2-5 down in the second set to secure a quarterfinal berth at the Birmingham Open; defeating Russia’s Alina Charaeva, 6-2, 7-5, in a match that featured dramatic momentum swings before the Filipino star ultimately prevailed.
The opening set was dominated by Eala, who broke serve immediately as Charaeva committed two double faults in the very first game. The Russian managed to get on the board late in the set, but Eala remained composed, holding serve and maintaining control before converting her fifth set point to take the opener, 6-2.
The second set proved to be a much tougher challenge. Charaeva adjusted her tactics, mixing in slices, drop shots, and aggressive groundstrokes to disrupt Eala’s rhythm. Her strategy paid off as she surged to a 5-2 lead.
The grass surface also played a significant role, with low, skidding bounces making shot-making more difficult. Eala, however, stayed composed, moving well and refusing to let either the conditions or the scoreline affect her focus.
Facing a three-game deficit, Eala mounted an impressive fightback. She won two consecutive games to cut the gap to 4-5, then continued her momentum by capturing five of the final seven games of the match to complete a stunning 7-5 second-set victory.
With the win, Eala advances to the quarterfinals tomorrow, where she will face Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew, currently ranked World No. 173.
