Nur Ezza Ashikin Abdul Razak

In the quaint town of Kajang, Selangor, a young girl named Eyknn found her love for futsal at age five. When she kicked a football, she knew this sport would become her lifelong hobby. Little did she know that her unwavering dedication and immense talent would take her on a journey beyond her wildest dreams.

As Eyknn grew older, she continued to enjoy playing the game casually with her friends, but she never entertained the idea of pursuing it more seriously. In 2018, Eyknn's exceptional skills on the pitch caught the attention of our national coach, leading to her selection to represent the country in the AFF U-16 Girls Championship held in Nepal. Encouraged by her supportive family, Eyknn decided to give the trial a chance, which was a transformative eye-opener for her.

After the tournament in Nepal, she joined Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Sabah and quickly rose through the ranks, showing her prowess as a remarkable goalkeeper. Her ability to read the game and lightning reflexes made her a formidable force between the posts. However, the pandemic severely hampered her progress as no training sessions or games were available during that period.

After completing her SPM, Eyknn decided to step away from football and shift her focus entirely to her studies at Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia. Henrietta persuaded her to dust off her gloves and return to the field, as Negeri Sembilan needed a goalkeeper to compete in the Women's Super League. She ended up winning the Golden Gloves and only conceded 1 goal in 7 games. She was also the best keeper in the 2022 Piala Tun Sharifah Rodziah and her reputation as one of Malaysia's finest goalkeepers grew.

Eyknn's defining moment arrived when she received the call-up to represent Malaysia in the recently concluded SEA Games. The privilege of representing the Malaysia Tigress overwhelmed her with immense pride and reinvigorated determination. She is fully immersed in rigorous training and preparation for the upcoming Liga Wanita Nasional, where she will proudly don the colours of Kelana United , aiming to make her mark in the league.

Never Ending Problem.

Kelantan FC, owned by Norizam Tukiman, widely known as Zamsaham, has recently garnered significant attention for its controversial practices of misleading or evading its responsibilities, specifically the failure to pay its players and staff. The club, affectionately known as the Red Warriors, has faced mounting scrutiny as reports emerged in May, revealing the distressing financial strain experienced by the team due to the alleged non-payment of their full salaries.

The owner, Norizam Tukiman, astonishingly defended his decision to withhold his players' salaries by attributing it to their poor performance, suggesting that it would motivate them to improve. This claim has left many in disbelief, making it one of the most incredulous statements of the season. In a bizarre response to the allegations of unpaid salaries, he went as far as challenging anyone to purchase the club and present proof of funds to his email, adding an ironic twist to the situation.

Amidst a whirlwind of negative news, Zamsaham, the club owner, was entangled in controversy when reports emerged of him engaging in a physical altercation with one of his former physiotherapists during a premier league match last season. On May 30th, Nita Sahari took to social media to allege that the owner of Kelantan FC owes her a substantial amount, close to a quarter of a million ringgit. The influx of news we witness or hear is reaching an alarming and overwhelming extent. It needs to stop.

Unpaid salaries have been a long-standing issue in the M-League, and the authorities have yet to find an effective formula to eradicate the problem. Kelantan has encountered similar issues in the past, making this a recurring problem for the club. Being a football club owner comes with the immense responsibility of ensuring financial stability and honouring contractual obligations. The escalating barrage of negative news surrounding the owner and club has reached an alarming level, leaving the players and staff bearing the brunt of the consequences. This distressing situation must be swiftly resolved for those directly affected.

How can we, as fans, contribute to resolving this problem?

The Next Gen!

Many young players in the country are beginning to make their mark on the game and, perhaps, take Malaysian football to a higher level one day. Mukhairi Ajmal is one of them. He was born on November 7, 2001, in Sungai Lembing, Pahang, and began his youth career representing his school before moving up the ranks and representing Pahang in different age groups. Mukhairi was a standout player in his teen years and his talent caught the eye of Sekolah Sukan Malaysia Pahang (Official) (SSMP). He was there until he was 15 before taking a giant leap of faith by transferring to Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail-SSTMI (SSTMI), where he spent two years honing his craft.

Abu Bakar Fadzim then decided to bring the talented and untested midfielder to PKNP at the end of 2018. Mukhairi made his Super League debut at 17, coming off the bench against PKNS. Mukhairi would gain valuable playing time, especially in the Malaysian Cup. His short stint with PKNP was noticed and at the end of 2019, Selangor FC signed him on a three-year deal. Despite receiving offers from numerous clubs, the possibility of representing the Red Giants was too tempting for him to reject.

After just one season of playing and impressing for the Selangor B team, he would be promoted to the next season's senior squad. Michael Feichtenbeiner gave Mukhairi his senior debut on October 3, 2020, when he started him in a 7-0 win versus PDRM. Mukhairi's breakthrough season came in the 2021-22 campaign, where he made 20 league appearances for the Red Giants, playing a significant role for the team. People expect big things from Selangor's new number 10.

Mukhairi's ability earned him a call-up to the senior national team under coach Tan Cheng Hoe. He made his senior debut in a friendly match defeat versus Jordan. Mukhairi also captained the national under-18 team that finished 2nd in the 2019 AFF U-18 Youth Championship, losing narrowly to Australia. Mukhairi's rise to prominence is a testament to the talent and hard work he has put into his career. With his technical ability, composure on the ball, and eye for a pass, he looks set to be a key player for the Red Giants & Harimau Malaya for many years to come.
