📢📢Please don't cruise with 📢📢
Royal Caribbean is about to invest millions of dollars in Cozumel, aiming to expropriate from the population, buying from very few, very corrupt politicians. The population is against those projects but it is difficult to fight corruption, especially if that much money is involved
Royal Caribbean is about to construct an extension of their existing cruise pier in Cozumel. 📢📢
This will destroy a healthy reef many locals in Cozumel live from. Along this reef you will find dive operations offering scuba courses, giving reliable work to thousands of people that feed their family with that income.
The new Royal Caribbean pier is around half a km, fourth of a mile long and will completely destroy what it is used for diving and snorkeling. Permits to this extension were only possible due to the high level of corruption in Mexico and Cozumel. Royal Caribbean benefits and contributes directly in this corruption, aiming to expropriate from Cozumels population.
👉👉The only access to the ocean left in downtown will be taken away from locals, kids and tourists. The ecological impact is immense. Royal Caribbean does all that for their own benefit, not taking responsibility of their actions.
👉👉There are already 7-8 spaces for cruise ships in Cozumel, always enough for incoming ships to dock.
👉👉There is absolutely no economical benefit in these additional piers. It will take away the last accessible beach from Cozumel kids, they have almost nowhere to learn to swim, to snorkel, to scuba dive.
📢📢THIS PROJECT IS NOT WANTED BY THE COZUMEL POPULATION📢📢
👉👉Please boykott Royal Caribbean and support Cozumel. Please help to save a healthy reef. Don't by cruises with Royal Caribbean
👉👉Unfortunately only very little income from the cruis ships benefits the population of Cozumel. Most remains within the cruise lines or goes to the mega companies getting rich and richer.
👉👉Royal Caribbean aims for its own beach in Cozumel, sold to them by a very powerful Mexican family that does not even live in Cozumel, but operates tour businesses, ferry companies and car ferries. With this privatized beach they are taking away the last beautiful beach access South of downtown from the public. This is illegal by Mexican law as beaches are public and can not be privatized. Access to the beach must be granted. Once again, Royal Caribbean is benefitting from their good connections to Mexican corruption.
Please again, do not sail with Royal Caribbean. Best woul be to spend a few days of your vacation on the amazing Island Cozumel.
Also, please do not buy beachfront, don't go to the privatized beach clubs that exclude locals. For a Cozumel that can be enjoyed by everyone, no only by tourists.
