If you're anything like me, then you've spent a good portion of your life following one type of diet or another.
Perhaps you've lost weight on them in the beginning, but then it stopped working and you probably gained back all the weight you lost and then some. Am I right?
If I'm right it's because I'm assuming that your experience on all the various yo-yo diets was like mine and everybody else I know who tried to lose weight by following the latest popular fad diet.
Various studies on dieting and weight loss have discovered that most people feel worse about themselves after being on a diet which didn't work for them.
Which is probably the exact opposite feeling that they were aiming for because most of us go on diets to feel better about the way we look and feel.
Some of my hypnotherapy clients tell me things like "I went on this low carb diet to lose weight and it worked for a while, but then I missed eating a piece of toast with my coffee or some bread with my cheese. Before I knew it, I had gained all the weight back that I'd lost and gained an extra 10 pounds on top of it. I feel like such a failure."
It dawned on me that most of my hypnotherapy clients with weight challenges also happened to suffer from other stress-related issues.
So, I created an evening visualization for them to listen to right before going to sleep at night. I filled it with hypnotic suggestions designed to help them feel more relaxed, knowing that feeling calmer might also reduce their Cortisol levels (which affect the Leptin receptors that signal the brain that you feel full).
I also tossed in suggestions for wanting to eat less processed foods and more whole foods. And suggestions for experiencing a higher level of confidence and self-esteem.
I shared the recording with a few of my hypnotherapy clients and they immediately reported back to tell me that they slept great that night and woke up feeling like they had more energy. After a week or two, most of them indicated that they were craving less processed foods and more whole foods.
And all of us (including myself) began to lose weight and that made us feel great because we were looking better, feeling better and creating our ideal bodies without the added stress of dieting.
