Tharusha Mendis – World Junior Championships 🇺🇸

The final World Junior Championships of his junior career came to an end today.

Having competed on the same stage as some of the best young athletes in the world, participating in two World Junior Championships has been an incredibly valuable experience in Tharusha’s athletic journey.

At this stage of his career, victories are important, but the setbacks and challenges are equally valuable in shaping a stronger athlete for the future.

A strong house needs time to build a strong foundation.

It was just bad luck. The cold weather didn’t give you a chance, but sometimes we have to accept these things and move forward.

The same thing happened to Indian high jumper Tejaswin Shankar as well. It was simply an unfortunate situation, and it can happen in sport.

The fact that you made it to this competition is already a great achievement. You had to stop because of cramps, but that’s something that can happen during a competition. It’s just one competition, Dasun. Let’s prepare even better for the next one and come back stronger.

Tharusha Mendis has once again qualified for the World Athletics U20 Championships, becoming the only Sri Lankan athlete to qualify for the World Athletics U20 Championships for a second time.
After first representing Sri Lanka at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships, Tharusha has now secured qualification again for the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in the USA.
