Bassano 2026, task 2

Gin Team reports:
“A super stable start on Task 2 made it difficult to get into a good position before the start, which affected the rest of the race. The first section was a long, slow glide followed by strong ridge soaring, where Luke managed to pull ahead of the field and collect the lead-out points.
The return from the eastern turnpoint brought a big change of pace. For the first 10 km, lift was everywhere and there was barely any need to turn, but after crossing the main gap the lift became weak and slowing down was necessary. Luke stayed in front, but eased up at the valley turnpoint to allow the first gaggle to catch up and help with finding thermals.
The lead gaggle eventually caught Luke, and a group of around 10 pilots pushed on to the western turnpoint, including Aurelius, Tom, Marco, and Luke.
The run back to the final turnpoint was fast initially, but once again required a change of gears as the day began to shut down and the ridge stopped working. Luke pushed ahead low, while the gaggle behind — including Tom, Marco, and Carlos — stopped to climb in weak lift before heading out into the valley on an optimistic final glide to goal.
Luckily, the last 10 km final glide was similar to yesterday’s conditions and lifted everyone into goal after a tense 30-minute struggle to stay airborne. Tom Hodkins arrived 30 seconds ahead of second place, with Marco finishing 4th, Luke 7th with 100% lead-out points, and Carlos 10th.
Gin Gliders continue to hold 1st and 2nd place in the season standings.
Let’s see what tomorrow brings.“

SRS Bassano 2026

Gin Team reports:
“A very tricky first task at the SRS offered stable conditions with bubbles of lift, and the odd boomer. This made it hard to know when to take a climb and when to push on, and allowed for leap-frogging using riskier lines away from the main gaggles.

Tom spent the majority of the task chasing from behind, eventually catching the lead gaggle by using a combination of flatland and terrain. He was then able to execute a fast and bold final leg, arriving in first place only 50 meters above the elevated-Goal.”

SRS Skywalk Edition, Bassano, Italy (23-30 May).

The 15th SRS takes off this weekend in a stunning venue, where the Italian plains meet the great alpine chain. With epic views of the Dolomites, tasks will mix flats and mountains. He or she who wins, in the land of paragliding and prosecco, will need a very versatile skill set.

It will have the highest WPRS in the history of the SRS, around 77 points for the winner; an unbeatable pilot quality until we have the World Sports Final next July.

Gin have two very strong teams: Carlos Lopes, Tom Hodgkin, Riley Ferre and Aurelijus Andreliunas.

Gin 2: Luke Nicol, Marco Sommerfeld, Gordon Mucklow and Simon Steiner.

The season winners from 2023, 2024 & 2025 will be going head-to-head, giving us a masterclass in racing and an epic battle!

14 pilots competing in Bassano have already won a task. Between them, they have won 54% (29 out of the 54) of the tasks ever flown in the SRS!

9 out of the top 10 from the 2025 SRS are here!

The top 6 pilots in the new PG XC Sport World ranking are taking part.

19 ladies will be racing, including those with the most task wins ever in the SRS.

Big changes are in the air! In Bassano the pilots will race to an Elevated ESS, 200m above the goal line, instead of a separate cylinder!

It will be a truly international event with pilots from 33 different countries and a wingspan across the generations.

The live tracking should be the best it has ever been. We will be trialling a new method of collecting and processing position data which should give the best experience so far in the sport.

The forecast is stunning, tune in to the live commentary on Sunday morning on SRS.live, series and via our new live viewing option.
