I have to rant. Have you guys seen this article about Real Women Posing As Sports Illustrated Models? Go look it up if not! This picture was part of the piece.

First, let me just say that I give a resounding HELL YES to the "real woman" pictured on the right. So beautiful, powerful and sexy! But the thing I dislike about articles like this is the argument that anyone with a fit or slim physique doesn't constitute a "real" woman. I'm not talking about the dangerous messaging behind highly re-touched pictures and peddling THOSE false and impossible standards as the norm. That's a very real, ridiculous, and harmful practice. I think we can all agree that skin folding, wrinkles, freckles, curves, thigh gap or no thigh gap are ALL normal occurrences on various human bodies and are in NO way necessary to edit in or out of a photo. What I'm talking about is the marginalization of certain bodies-- ANY bodies. As harmful as it is to call out any small population for being "not normal", it's just as harmful in this context. It's telling REAL people that they're not good enough. So let's get one thing straight: if you're a human being with a human body, your body is that of a "real woman/man" no matter what becomes trendy to talk about.
