Khayal Abbasov Claims First Major Title

The marquee Main Event took center stage with a guaranteed prize pool of USD 600,000, and it did not disappoint. A total of 415 entries across four starting flights marked the tournament’s largest field to date, eclipsing attendance from the first two editions.

Azerbaijan’s Khayal Abbasov emerged as the series’ headline story, capturing the Main Event title and the $116,500 top prize—the biggest payout of the festival and the largest live score of his career. Abbasov’s composed and precise play earned him his first major title and firmly established him as a rising star on the international scene.

In addition to his Main Event triumph, Abbasov made two more cashes, including an 8th place finish in the Mystery Bounty for $7,920 (including bounties) and 20th in the Warm Up for another $1,000. His total series earnings came to $125,420, hailing him as the festival’s top earner. Notably, Abbasov also won the Mini Main Event at the previous WPC, proving that his continued success is no coincidence.

Vietnam Wins Most Trophies

With 22 events on the lineup, this season saw representatives hailing from nearby Vietnam secure the most number of wins by flag, with five trophies hailing the golden-starred red banner up high. W High Roller champion Hoang Hai Nam captured the biggest win on the list, followed by Viet An Nguyen, who also came in fourth at the Main Event for an additional $43,100 in winnings.

Impressive Run By Craig Jones

Making the trek another time around, United Kingdom’s Craig Jones made his presence on the felt known once again. The former PLO Turbo champion put up a strong performance in this year’s flagship events, though narrowly missed out on the W High Roller title, finishing runner-up for USD 56,500. In addition, Jones also booked a deep run at the Mystery Bounty with another 6th place finish putting him high up in the green with $61,320 in total earnings for the week-stretch.

Anzhela Vasylenko Continues Hot Streak

Ukraine’s Anzhela Vasylenko remains one of the most consistent performers in Won Poker Cup’s chapters with notable performances recorded one after the other. After finishing 4th in the inaugural Main Event and winning the Ladies Event in the second edition, she returned this season to add another trophy to her collection.

Vasylenko topped the Sunday Deepstack for USD 4,600, and made two more final table appearances:

Not to forget, Australia’s Armon Van Wijk, the 2024 Main Event runner-up, who nearly completed a storybook comeback but once again fell just short of the title. Stacking a huge chip deficit during heads-up play, Van Wijk ultimately settled for second place, this time earning a more substantial $73,800. While Van Wijk booked another near miss, his efforts didn’t go unrewarded with his additional 7th place cash in the prestigious W High Roller, bumping his total haul to a worthy $87,000.
