Africa has a sports industry and ecosystem that is valued at around $12-15 billion, yet captures less than 3% of global sports revenue, which stands at a staggering $521 billion. This is a sad reality for a continent whose median age is 19.5, with a whole other conversation of untapped or poorly managed sporting talent, lacking structure and infrastructure.

Under the banner, "Where Africa's Sports Industry Meets Opportunity, Innovation and Investment" and the stewardship of the project lead, Bridget Umutoni, we were hosted to a multi-sectoral and stakeholder forum with discussions on unlocking Africa's commercial and economic potential, leveraging on our sporting talents and capabilities.

Sirua was well represented in the conversations that presented the theme "Advancing Africa's Sports Economy: Business, Investment and Sustainable Growth" which formed a bigger part of the discourse in culmination to a bigger forum and exhibition by Sportsbiz Africa Forum in Kigali, Rwanda later in September.

Dan spoke of the emerging demand to professionalize and institutionalize sports to a more sustainable pathway rather than a "side hustle"
Professional sports in Africa need to have a livable wage, and sportsmen deserve a dignified living that sets them up for retirement.

Penny spoke of building from the ground up with minimal support from stakeholders and "Big brother" partners. She reiterated the potential and growth of over the years albeit with growing pains from institutional failures and misdeeds.
She spoke on Kenya's recent thrust to the global map in the Ally Pally that saw sudden interest in darts and how organizations like Sirua are vital to sustain growing interests, investment and curiosity in sports.

The highlight of the day and probably the biggest take away from most of us who are engaged in the day to day runnings and management of a sports franchise was policy, investment, technology, infrastructure, media, business and collaboration go hand in hand in ploughing back talent and the economic potential of sports.

"Ingieni darts mjienjoy!" Is what Regina Nyaga, the first runners up and a top contender in the ladies category had to say in her post match conversation with TheAnd as she recounted her highlights in the Mombasa Darts showdown, going at it with her friend and closest rival, Susan Kirunguru.

Regina played a clean game, with a clean sweep of wins all the way to the semis and impressive scores garnering her a tournament 3DA of 54.10, the highest in the ladies category also peaking at number 36 in the overall rankings. She conceded to Susan in the finals after a 5-2 loss.

Regina remains one of the key contenders in Sirua circles with a strong grasp of the game from the grassroots as a testament of years on the oche. She will be joining other players in consequent bouts from the SDC to the remainder of the circuit, Nanyuki, culminating in the

Changing tides in the world of darts from generally a game dominated by the middle aged male with statistically a likelihood to peak between the ages 30-38, now bringing a new face with the likes of Beau and Littler who are both dominating globally and barely in their 20s๐ŸŽฏ

In the past couple of weeks, Luke Littler has become the first dart player to exceed ยฃ3 000 000 in winnings.
With this he becomes the 4th player to be a back to back World Matchplay champion, and the overall best player to challenge with some serious GOAT allegations๐ŸŒš

The main event was highly contested with the knockout stages proving to be the main battle ground for Mombasa's Match Play 3, giving way to all new pros battling it out for the cup in the finals๐Ÿฅ‡

The semis between Festus Chepkwony and Vincent Kimutai played on Sunday evening as a sudden death round that ended with 3 strikes in Chepkwony's favor who won 7-4 legs against the challenger. Kimutai would then finish the tournament with a 3DA of 66.22, peaking at position 10 in the overall list and 11 in the order of merit.

The Mombasa Darts Open cup, was obviously clinched by Manpreet who faced Chepkwony in the finals and now leads Sirua's order of merit with 960 points, with his closest challenger, Peter Wanjii peaking at 900 points.
Festus Chepkwony conceded Mombasa at position 3 with a 72.28 3DA with Benson Ngari as the 1st runners up of the tournament at 72.33.
Chepkwony, a leading contender in Sirua circles also sums up an impressive 510 points at position 4 of the order of merit.

The story of Mombasa's Match Play 3 is definitely not complete without "the Prodigy's" antics and great performance on the oche now being pitted against the Masters from the main event! ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŽฏ
A***n Khalsa peaked at position 7 in the general ranking with a 70.69 3DA displaying his prowess and affinity for fairly high finishes with a good record of aims to the treble 20.

He continues to play games that speak of his growth in grit, skill and calculations with a penchant for more surprise and unpredictable plays. Definitely a pedigree player worth his salt in regional circles, Kenya and the North of Africa is only a stepping stone for young A***n.

With his Europe debut in 2025, we're excited to see more from the Prodigy in the last quarter of 2026 with possibly more local, regional and international appearances. Go A***n!!!๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿฅ‡

"Mungu mbele!!"๐ŸŽฏ๐Ÿฅ‡ We caught up with Susan Kirunguru, Mombasa's Match Play 3 winner after her invigorating final with Regina Nyaga and generally good showing in the Nyumba Group Mombasa Darts Open, she opened up to us on challenging herself by registering for both categories in the tournament and her future plans for the coming

As she caught her breath after the challenging back to back antics on the oche that saw her clinching the Mombasa trophy, she spoke proudly of her journey from Chuka and the next generation of pro-darters that are yet to join the fray as her mentees.
With record highs in the ladies category, and more challengers in coming Nanyuki and Nairobi tournaments, Susan and other key contenders are getting busier on the oche by the day! Be sure to watch this space! ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿซก
