What are you choosing to focus on in your relationship — the imperfections or the love still holding it together?

What causes repeated hurtful behaviour in marriage?

Have you ever found yourself asking:
“Why does this keep happening?”
“Why am I always the one hurting?”
“Is it me… or is something deeper going on?”

The truth is, repeated hurtful behaviour is rarely random. It often comes from:

Unhealed wounds
People who haven’t dealt with their past pain often pass it on—through anger, silence, disrespect, or emotional withdrawal.

Lack of accountability
When someone refuses to take responsibility, they repeat the same behaviour because nothing is correcting it.

Power and control dynamics
Sometimes it’s about dominance—one partner feels entitled, the other feels diminished.

Poor communication habits
Instead of expressing feelings in a healthy way, it comes out as blame, insults, or avoidance.

Emotional disconnection
When love isn’t nurtured, small issues grow into cycles of hurt.

Learned behaviour
What someone saw growing up can quietly shape how they treat their partner—until they consciously choose differently.

But here’s the part we don’t say enough:

Love is not supposed to keep hurting you the same way over and over.

Yes, marriage takes work.
Yes, people make mistakes.
But repeated pain without change is not normal—it’s a sign that something needs attention, healing, and sometimes intervention.

You don’t have to keep suffering in silence.
You don’t have to normalize pain to keep peace.

Healing is possible.
Change is possible.
Healthy love is possible.

And you don’t have to figure it out alone.
