Machakos School Alumni Association (MSAA) on Saturday led the school fraternity in a 5-kilometer walk to fundraise for the construction of the School Aquatic Stadium.The historic event was organized by MSAA under its Chairman, Rtd. Justice Philip Waki, and the School Principal, Mr. Benson Manoo.Old boys, some of whom left the school in the 1960s and 70s, participated in the morning walk, following a familiar route they used during cross-country marathons in their heydays.Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary, State Department for Sports, Elijah Mwangi, said investing in sports infrastructure will create a pathway for talent development as envisioned in the new Competency-Based Education (CBC).Mr. Mwangi said there is a bright future for careers in sports, with athletes making millions within a short period of time.He added that the government is committed to supporting the Ministry of Sports to nurture talents across the country.The fundraising drive brought together alumni, students, teachers, parents, and well-wishers, all united in supporting the school's vision of becoming a hub for swimming and aquatic sports in the region.
