It’s May! which in local boxing terms can only mean one thing – it’s time to kick off 2025 national boxing league season under our program.
2025 league competition promises to be one of the most exciting ever with more women fighters expected to join the league while several contenders primed to settle scores – retire some - show who’s boss in the five leg long league. The 1st of the 5 leg series will be this Thursday, May 15th in the border county of Busia.
With his powerful punch and aggressive fighting style, the breath taking form of Jasper Sagali, the 2025 Kenya Open Super Heavyweight Champion from Prison continues to terrify many of his opponents. After stopping Kisumu’s John Otieno in round two of the 2024 Super Heavyweight 5 leg finals in Homabay, the Mike Tyson reincarnate continued with his impressive form this season switching off Abubakar Hakin of Kenya Police with Breathtaking KO in the first round of 2025 Kenya Open Leaving Hakim gasping for air.
The most thrilling contest of the season are expected to take place in the fly and heavy weight categories. The rivalry between Nairobi's Emmanuel Chondo and Police's Diouff Muimi is anticipated to intensify this season following their spectacular clash at the Kenya Open finals. There is still no love lost in the heavy weight category. Humphrey Ochieng of Police vowed to permanently dethrone Robert Okaka as this season's undisputed Light Heavy Champion.
Will Shaffi Hassan, the "dancing" boxer, recover from his reoccurring injury this season to cement his status as the best in Bantam, or will KDF's Kelvin Munyau, Dennis Mwendwa, and Jared Otieno turn off the music for Shaffi? Will Michael Ndonga carry his good form from the Kenya Open into the league,and confirm that defeating bookmakers' favourite Mwinyi Kombo in the Feather Weight finals was no fluke?
