Our success stories - Our anti jigger project in Mararani is now bearing fruit. Some of the men and women have opted to make Neem soap and earn a living, instead of engaging in full time alcoholism. Most children are now healed and can attend school as well as play football. Please stay on this page to be updated.

On Saturday, we were at Mararani Village to continue our work. We had new volunteers to help us, and the villagers woke up early morning to clean the village. More than 70 households were sprayed to rid them of bed bugs and fleas. The children were not left behind as they were already waiting punctually when we arrived for the jigger treatment, and at the end of the day, it was fun, laughter and happiness. Take a look.

Hands up for Kids Founder and Friends visited Mararani village, a 10 minute walk from Shella. Mararani is an informal settlement area in the dunes above Shela village with makuti huts housing all the residents. The aim was to extend love and kindness to the villagers, adults and children alike. By the time they left, a new dawn was born in the village of Mararani. The villagers held their first ever general cleanup of the village, collecting rubbish and burning it. The team of volunteers offered the first jigger treatment for those infected, children and adults alike. The final step was to spray the huts and the areas around them to kill the jiggers and their eggs while preventing the spread, and while all this was going on, a few children had their very first yoga session. Thumbs up to Monika Fauth, Hands up For Kids, Madam Zuhura of Bright Girls Secondary School, Kelly of Lamu Yoga, Anita of Babu British House, Patricia of Banana House, Beatrice of Bea salon, Mr Dewa the village elder, and all the people of Mararani village. Let us learn to make a change for the better in the world, Let us serve without expecting anything in return. Spread love to everyone regardless of their race, colour or tribe. Remember, it starts with you, and even with all the challenges, it is still a beautiful world, full of lovely people. All are welcome to join in this course, the team heads there again this Saturday, with events beginning at 3.00pm. Villagers will start the general clean up at 6.00am in the morning. During the recent Art Exhibition held at Banana House, we had some kids who participated in the event. Some helped in collecting rubbish and turning it into art, and we even had one buyer! We must all play a role in helping children from all walks of life to nurture talents even at a tender age. By the time they grow up, they have great potential, and directly or indirectly, we will have dealt poverty a Big Blow. Take a Look....

We have been updating you on the progress of the 2 classrooms at the Bright Girls Shella Secondary school. They were completed a while ago, and opened by the Australian High Commissioner on the 29th July 2013. Though it rained cats and dogs, this to everyone was a blessing, and it was a really great event.

I am truly Humbled. At the same time, I am very Happy. You can see why.
