STATEMENT ON THE ARREST OF HOPEKIN DIGITAL CEO EMMANUEL MALEVE
We strongly condemn the arbitrary arrest of Emmanuel Maleve, CEO of Hopkin Digital, by individuals believed to be officers alleged to be from Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kitui Town.
This is not just an attack on one man it is an assault on press freedom, digital journalism, and the right of citizens to know the truth. Emmanuel has fearlessly reported stories that matter. His arrest is nothing less than an attempt to silence truth-tellers and intimidate independent voices who hold power to account.
We demand his immediate and unconditional release. Journalism is not a crime. Speaking truth to power is not sedition. Arresting a journalist for doing their job sets a dangerous precedent and takes us down a dark path as a country.
We call on the media fraternity, human rights organizations, civil society, and all Kenyans of goodwill to stand up and demand release of Maleve. Free Emmanuel Maleve now.
The truth will not be buried. The people will not be silenced.
