Why Do We Choose ITF Taekwon-Do for Our Children?
One parent asks another:
“Why do you choose to commit so much time and energy to ITF Taekwon-Do for your child?”
The answer is simple:
We are not doing this to make our child a champion.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do because we want our child to learn what it means to keep going when things are difficult, even when they feel tired, frustrated, or unsure of themselves.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do so our child can develop lasting friendships, built on shared effort, respect, and perseverance.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do so our child can learn from experienced instructors who teach not only techniques, but values — courtesy, humility, focus, and responsibility.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do so our child can learn self-discipline.
To stand correctly.
To listen carefully.
To control emotions.
To treat others with respect, regardless of age or ability.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do so our child learns how to handle disappointment — when a technique doesn’t work, when progress feels slow, when mistakes are made — and how to return to training with their head held high.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do so our child understands that real achievement takes time.
That nothing worthwhile happens overnight, and that improvement comes through patience and consistent practice.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do so our child learns how to set goals and work steadily towards them, one step at a time.
We choose ITF Taekwon-Do so our child spends time in the dojo, learning structure, self-control, and positive habits, rather than drifting toward negative influences.
The short answer is this:
We do not choose karate simply as an activity.
We choose it as a way of shaping character.
To become confident without arrogance.
Strong without aggression.
Respectful without fear.
This is not just training.
It is a foundation for life.
