GLASGOW 2026 Commonwealth Games – Day 6 (August 1)

Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang wins 5000m title 🇰🇪

Kenya's Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang ruled supreme over the final 200m of a tactical 5000m race, claiming the title in 13:23.61 ahead of Australia's Ky Robinson (13:24.70) and India's Gulveer Singh (13:24.95), who earned their second distance medals after taking gold and silver in the 10,000m.

Another Kenyan, Cornelius Kemboi, narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing just 0.04 seconds behind Singh.

Teresiah Muthoni Gateri, Naomi Korir, and Rosemary Longisa have successfully advanced to the women's One Mile final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Gateri won her heat, while Korir and Longisa secured their spots through strong placements in the second heat.

• Teresiah Muthoni Gateri: Won Heat 1 with a season-best time of 4:33.11.

• Naomi Korir: Placed fourth in Heat 2, clocking a season-best 4:31.80.

• Rosemary Longisa: Finished fifth in Heat 2 with a time of 4:32.02.

Wycliffe Kinyamal and Kelvin Kimtai Loti have officially secured their spots in the men's 800m final at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games after commanding performances in their respective semifinal heats.

Wycliffe Kinyamal won Semifinal Heat 1, crossing the finish line with a swift time of 1:44.91.

Kelvin Kimtai Loti, the reigning African Champion, secured his place by powering through to win Semifinal Heat 2 in 1:45.09.

Kinyamal's qualification keeps his historic bid firmly on track. Having previously secured gold at the 2018 Gold Coast and 2022 Birmingham Games, he is now just one race away from becoming the first athlete in history to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games 800m titles.

The highly anticipated final is scheduled to take place on the evening of Saturday, 1 August 2026.
