Initial reports had mistakenly identified the hawker shot by a police officer in Nairobi CBD as Eli Joshua (Collins Odhiambo)

It has now been confirmed that the victim's name is Boniface Kariuki.

Hello Mr. Principal,

I hope this letter finds you well, though I doubt it will.
See, I was supposed to report back today Monday. With chalk dust on my cuffs and a smile on my face.

But I won’t be coming.
Not because I’m sick.
Not because I quit.
But because I died,
In the hands of those who swore to protect me.

I went home to Homabay.
Just to greet my mother, feel the village breeze, and remember who I was before lesson plans and school bells.
But they came for me.
Not thieves.
Not bandits.
But men with badges.

They said, "Come with us, just a small matter to discuss."
But their vehicle roared like war.
Their mission had no mercy.
They didn’t come to ask.
They came to silence.

They say I hit the wall.
They say I confessed with my skull.
But you and I know, walls don’t kill unless hands help them.
I died in a cell, Mr. Principal.
And not even a whiteboard was left to tell my side of the story.

My only weapon?
A keyboard.
My only sin?
Telling the truth in a country that fears it.

So tell the students not to wait for me.
Tell them that Mr. Alberto won’t be back.
Not because he failed them.
But because this country failed him.

From now on, I’ll be marking papers in silence.
Six feet under. While justice plays hide and seek above ground.

He wasn't the only son, but the only child, that's a father left fatherless and a mother left motherless.

He was 31 years old and newly married, a widow left young at late 20s.

He had a 2 year old kid, a kid left without a father at 2.

If this doesn't make you angry, you are a witch.

The Tawe Nation is deeply saddened by the untimely and tragic passing of Albert Ojwang ,a beloved educator, a passionate social influencer, and a courageous voice whose impact resonated across our country. His loss is a heavy blow to all who knew him and to the many more who were inspired by his work and words.

At this profoundly difficult time, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the broader community mourning his loss. We share in your grief and stand with you in solidarity.

We urgently call upon the relevant authorities including the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the National Police Service to launch a prompt, transparent, and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Justice must be pursued with integrity and urgency. Every Kenyan, regardless of status or profession, deserves dignity, truth, and accountability.

We demand that justice be served. Not only must it be done, but it must also be seen to be done.

May the soul of Albert Ojwang rest in eternal peace.
