… and we’re back, Raj Says Run, again. 😂 First run in 3 weeks. Had planned on doing some running in Japan but once I was out there I never really had the chance, there was too much else to do out there. Whilst I absolutely love running, it’s not everything… and I knew it’ll be there for me when I was back. And it was was there today and it was absolutely great to get some early morning miles in… and surprisingly, it didn’t feel too bad considering the time off and travelling. Thank you running, you’ve been good to me! 🏃‍♂️😊

Another Japan trip concludes and another wonderful time was had. Not sad that it’s over, very grateful to have had the opportunity and excited for the next one! Nihon, hontōni arigatō!!! 🇯🇵🙇‍♂️❤️

And just like that it’s day 14, the last full day of this Japan trip, flight back early tomorrow. The day started with Osaka’s most iconic building, Osaka Castle. I don’t usually get too excited about castles, but this one is a real gem and I already felt pretty acquainted with it having seen it on countless episodes of Detective Conan. After that it was just walking around some of the neighbourhoods taking in the sights, sounds and smells. I finished off the day and the trip at Arabiq, a delightful tiny cafe full of books and eclectic nicknacks for sale. A perfect place to relax and reflect on a lovely trip to this wonderful country. 🇯🇵❤️

Spoiler warning… you’re about to see a lot of Daruma! Today was a visit to Katsuoji aka the temple of luck aka the daruma temple. The daruma were absolutely everywhere, it was quite a sight! The surrounding area was beautiful so the open views as you got higher were also fantastic. I love how the daruma embody the Zen Buddhist mindset of “nanakorobi yaoki” (fall down seven times, get up eight). Then an early evening walk around Nakazakicho and cafe treat. 😋 Here’s to some luck and resilience courtesy of our daruma friends! 💪

Rainy day in Osaka but still roarin! 🙌 Non stop rain all day so had to change plans for the day. Still, managed to visit the gigantic Tsutaya book store just outside town and grabbed a coffee and chiffon cake there, Starbucks out here is a whole different thing. Then headed back into town and visited the Namba Yasaka Jinja, it’s famous for the giant lion shaped performance hall but the shrine is lovely too. Then took a walk around Nakazakicho, it’s a neighbourhood filled with fantastic cafes and eclectic small shops. Found an absolutely brilliant cafe called Yatt and enjoyed watching the world go by in the rain. ☔️👌

It was a day of tea today in lovely Uji. The lady on my right is Murasaki Shikibu, she wrote the first ever known novel, The Tale of Genji, early in the 11th century. Today was about tea though, I visited some cafes and had a matcha, a matcha parfait, a sencha and four different kinds of hojicha. I also managed to restock on my supply of tea for the foreseeable future. 🫣😂 I missed the shrine though, it was right across the river from one of the tea houses i went to! 🤦‍♂️ A reason to return I guess. 🤷‍♂️

A day wandering around my home base of Osaka today. Started with Dotonbori and met the running man… for some inspiration. 😂 As you’ll see from the photos, he’s got some competition these day. 😬 Then a walk through some of the shotengai before stopping at Hoshino Coffee for iced coffee and toast with red bean paste and ice cream, absolutely delicious. It was so calm and chilled I forgot it was still Namba. Definitely way more my vibe the hustling and bustling Dotonbori. 😅 Then popped into for their denim pop up. Round off the day with, my favourite cafe so far on this trip, the place is the definition of zen and the hospitality is next level. I had the Gokou tea which was a first for me, super good and one i’ll be searching out in future. A good day in Osaka! 😁

Hakata in Fukuoka for me today. It was the last day of my JR Pass and I intended to make full use of it with another long distance trip. I love relaxing on the Shinkansen while rural (and sometimes industrial) Japan wizzes by the window. Hakata itself was nice, i guess it’s the smaller Kyushu version of Kansai’s Osaka and Kanto’s Tokyo? Not overly touristy but some nice places to see.

Back in Hiroshima today to hike Mount Misen, well part of it anyway as I got a cable car up, but i did hike the last mile and it was not easy!! 😂 Well worth the stillness and breathtaking views though. Also got in my first Hiroshima style okonomiyaki, delicious!! 👌 Also some photos from the last couple of days. Until today the trip has been less about tourism and more just hanging out in Japan. I did pack my running gear but… one of these days Raj will say run again! 😂

Day 2 in Mojiko done with a lovely loop walk that took in the Kyushu and Honshu islands via a 1k foot tunnel one way and ferry back the other. Made the decision to sit upstairs on the ferry and got completely sprayed with sea water for the entire 5 minute ride! 🙄😂 Live and learn right? 🤷‍♂️😂 Finished off the Mojiko adventure with some writing and reading over a coffee and cake.
