Interacting with aliens since 2019 👽✨
Still don’t know what the fuss is all about 🦑🐳🐡🐙

What would you name this little alien? Wrong answers only.

About last night ✨⭐️🌛🌖🌌

The stars must have aligned because getting to see a blue ring octopus, 3 flambouyant cuttlefish, octos, new to me Nudibranch all in the same dive was truly the dive of my life.

As would say
“I’m not saying it was the best night dive ever….but there WILL be signs” 😂

Video and photos still being processed as I continue to geek out looking at footage. In the meantime I hope you enjoy this insane Blue Ring Octopus as much as I did.

🦞Painted Spiny Lobster
Blue legs. White stripes. Antennae for days.

Couple quick things:
• No big claws like the grocery store kind
• Mostly out at night
• Can regrow legs over time

Usually hiding under ledges here in Okinawa, just watching everything.

🤙Sunday Sluggers & Nudibranchs: just a few from this past week.

⭐️Highlights of this past week:
Nudibranch mating, nudibranch laying eggs, showing off new nudis and finding a seahorse all in good company 🤿

👩‍🏫Things I learned this week:
Looking for mico nudibranch is addicting even though I’m starring at sand for 80% of the dive. AND even when you find them turning to show a friend is the best way to lose what you find 😂

Same energy as hiding in the back of the fridge so no one eats your leftovers.

A tiny aeolid nudibranch doing exactly that, blending in, keeping a low profile, and surviving by not standing out.

Sometimes the smartest move isn’t being loud…it’s being impossible to notice.

Just a shrimp hanging out on an octopus 🐙 🦐

At first I was just photographing the octopus until I realized the real star of the show was sitting on its face 😅😂

20 Sunday Sluggers.
The underwater version of birdwatching.

🛑 Stopping every few feet for nudibranchs.

At some point you realize you’ve collected too many to post one by one… so here’s 20 at once.

💅Slow dives, lots of stopping, and getting way too excited about something smaller than your fingernail.

20 slugs. No repeats.
Which one would’ve made you stop?

A while back I spent an entire day photographing things we see every dive but take for granted. While I absolutely love finding marine life I often forget about all the things these beautiful species live, eat and thrive from.
Which included this beautiful coral fan that day. I’ll be sure to sprinkle more finds from this day throughout the month.

Pure luck Dive 🧡
I squeezed in one last dive before a recent ski trip and found this sea slug within the first five minutes… and haven’t seen it since (so far)

🪨Drifting through rubble was a bright orange speck, maybe 4 mm in 15 ft of water. I honestly thought it was coral. I stared at it for a solid three minutes trying to decide if my eyes were lying… and then it moved. Immediate underwater squeal.

⏳I spent the next 90 minutes doing absolutely nothing productive except admiring it and taking way too many photos and videos.

🧡This is Hermaea cf. bifida — a tiny sacoglossan sea slug and a suspected or closely related species to the Atlantic Hermaea bifida. Similar Hermaea have been documented in Okinawa, often associated with red algae, and are notoriously difficult to identify without close comparison to species like H. wrangeliae.

🤯Hands down my favorite find from the last two years living in Okinawa 🌊
If this is how the year is starting, I can’t wait to see what 2026 continues to bring.✨

🤙Thanks for following my underwater addiction.
