It's been a crazy few weeks in Japan with so many friends from around the world visiting and joining the World Championships and Friendship Games.

This is just a random photo dump... I wish I'd taken more pics with everyone. Thank you all for making this such a lovely event.

If Taido is a martial art for living in society, what does that look like, in practical terms?

This is a short excerpt from my essay for 6dan a few years back. It shows an extremely boring and useful way to think about applying Taido in the real world.

What is seigyo, and how does it apply outside of a martial arts context? What does seigyo look like in society?

Taido is a relatively young martial art, developed in the 1960s, with its roots in Okinawan karate. The intriguing discipline includes fluid, highly acrobatic elements reminiscent of gymnastics or parkour. Taido emphasizes the core stability required to remain orientated during rapid, rotating attac...

Mikko and Katja made the terrible mistake of asking me to talk about Taido on their podcast 🤣🤣🤣

We covered some of the changes in Taido over the past few decades, Taido’s role in society (and the difference between koryu and gendai budo), and training/coaching methods. Aside from the portions where I’m talking, it’s a pleasant and informative conversation.

You should listen to it.

Listen to this episode from Taidohitsaamo on Spotify. Tällä kertaa podcastimme ottaa kansainvälisen askeleen kohti Japania ja ulkomaita. Vieraana on kunnioitettu ja pitkän linjan taidoka Andy Fossett. Fossett aloitti uransa Yhdysvalloissa, m***a päätyi Japaniin värikkään matkan jälkeen. An...

Something I'm thinking a lot about lately →

Over the past couple of months, our dojo at Hamacho has welcomed a handful of solid new members. This is a big deal for us, since the dojo was focused primarily on a core group of black belts for a very long time. Especially in Japan, it’s rare to really have an influx of adult students, so we wan...

Thanks to everyone I've had the chance to practice with over the last few weeks:

- training with good people at the Gothenburg Taido Club in Sweden
- teaching at the International Taido Seminar in Tampere, Finland
- Supporting American Taido Association to win four medals at the International Friendship Games
- Shinsa and Classes at our dojo in Atlanta
- East Tokyo / Tochigi Taido School joint training camp

As always, I'm grateful for all the friends I've made and the opportunity to keep learning more from Taido.

Taido gave me the opportunity to visit Japan, and that first trip changed my life. Now my mission is to make that same opportunity available for others. We're working to make our dojo a center for international Taido, where everyone is welcome to learn and make friends.

We had a fun taido experience session today!
See you next time!!

I know things have been pretty quiet around here lately. my major project over the past two years has been to re-establish an official Taido organization in the US. We're making great progress, and the FB page linked here is where news will be popping up as it happens.

Give it a follow and help support Taido :) Thanks!
