☀️ It’s the middle of summer in Japan…
…and all I can think about is skiing. 🤦‍♂️

Hi, I’m Take, the booking manager at 8 Peaks Resort.

My brain has two seasons:
❄️ Winter
❄️ Also Winter.

During ski season I tell everyone,
“You’ve GOT to try the sledding!”

Truth be told…
I’m probably the one who loves it the most. 😂

So when this summer sledding track opened at the base of Shirakaba Kogen Kokusai, I knew I was in trouble.

Smooth rails.
Just the right amount of speed.
No flying off the track.
Just pure fun! 🛷💨

I keep telling myself…

“One more run.”

“Okay… seriously, last one.”

“No, THIS is definitely the last one.”

…I’ve said that about six times already. 🤣

So today looked something like this:

📧 Reply to emails.
🛷 Go sledding.
📧 Back to work.
🛷 Another sled run.
📧 Answer another enquiry.
🛷 Somehow… another sled run.

Was I productive today?

Well…

Let’s just say my sledding skills definitely improved. 😅

🏔️ One of the most breathtaking views in the entire 8 Peaks Resort awaits you at the summit of Shirakaba Kogen Kokusai!

Ride the gondola up to 1,830m and you’ll discover a spectacular observation deck overlooking the magnificent Northern Alps.

Right next to the deck is the 1830 Cafe, where you can relax with a freshly brewed coffee, an 8 Peaks craft beer, or even a cup of warm Japanese sake while taking in the incredible mountain scenery.

Of course, if you’re ready for some skiing, enjoy a smooth 1.4km cruising run back down the mountain. Wide, scenic, and incredibly fun, it’s the perfect place to enjoy beautiful carving turns.

Not confident enough to ski down from the summit? No problem!

At Shirakaba Kogen Kokusai, you can simply take the gondola back down. That means even young children and first-time visitors can experience the stunning views without worrying about the descent.

Don’t forget to stop by the “Bell of Happiness” at the summit. 🔔

Looking for more speed, stability and precision on the snow?

Our new high-end ski models are designed to stay calm and stable even at higher speeds, reducing unwanted vibration and giving you a much more solid feel underfoot.

They are heavier than standard rental skis and require more strength and technique to turn — but once you learn how to use them, the reward is incredible.

Add just ¥2,000 per day to your standard ski rental.

You don’t need to upgrade for your entire stay either.

Meet Shirakabako Royal Hill — one of the six ski areas of 8 Peaks Resort.

Compact, fun and full of character, Royal Hill is a great place to enjoy smooth turns, playful terrain and beautiful views over Lake Shirakaba.

The resort has a maximum ski distance of 1,800 metres, making it a perfect slope for carving practice. With wide runs and scenic views, you can enjoy flowing turns while looking down toward the frozen lake below.

Royal Hill may be a smaller ski area, but there is plenty to enjoy.

For skiers looking to step up, you’ll find mogul runs, beginner-friendly kickers and jib features that make the mountain feel playful and exciting without being overwhelming.

It is also the only ski area within 8 Peaks Resort where night skiing is available.

As the sun goes down and the lights come on, the slopes take on a completely different atmosphere. Night skiing here is a special experience — quiet, crisp and perfect for squeezing even more fun into your snow holiday.

After skiing, stop by the base centre café and enjoy a drink, including 8 Peaks Brewing craft beer.

Ready to take the next step in your 8 Peaks Resort adventure?

Meet Shirakaba Kogen Kokusai — one of the six ski areas of 8 Peaks Resort.

After practising at Snow Park or Shirakaba 2in1, Kokusai is a wonderful place for families and beginner-to-intermediate skiers to step up to longer runs, wider views and a bigger mountain feeling.

Start your day by riding the gondola up to 1,830 metres.

At the top, you’ll find breathtaking views of the surrounding snow mountains — and even an open-air café where you can relax with a craft beer or warm Japanese sake while taking in the scenery.

From there, enjoy a refreshing 1.4 km cruising run back down the mountain. It’s the kind of slope where you can feel your progress, enjoy the speed, and start to fall even more in love with skiing.

There is also a special 5 km cross-country-style challenge course.

In summer, this route is a road, but in winter it becomes a dedicated ski course. With mostly gentle terrain, it is perfect for relaxed cruising through a quiet forest, away from the crowds.

And when you get hungry, don’t miss the local favourite: curry ramen.

First, enjoy it as a rich, warming bowl of ramen. Then, when the noodles are finished, add rice to the remaining soup and turn it into a curry risotto-style finish. Two delicious experiences in one bowl.

Meet Shirakaba 2in1 — one of the most popular ski areas at 8 Peaks Resort.

For families, beginners and first-time skiers, 2in1 is one of the best places to start your snow holiday.

The ski area has several short courses with gentle changes in slope, making it perfect for practice, confidence-building and step-by-step improvement.

It is also home to 8 Peaks Snow Sports, our ski and snowboard school with native English-speaking instructors.

Right in front of the school, there is a dedicated magic carpet area where beginners can take their first steps on snow in a safe and relaxed environment. Once you feel ready, you can move on to the Pleasure Course — a wide, gentle and longer run that is perfect for your first real slope experience.

For younger children, Penguin Park offers a fun sledding area where little ones can enjoy the snow even before they are ready to ski.

And for more confident riders, 2in1 also has a terrain park and steeper courses with gradients of around 30 to 32 degrees.

After all that skiing, it is time for food.

One of the must-try dishes at 2in1 is the popular maze-soba, a dry-style ramen dish that has even won a ramen battle competition.

Then, as soon as you walk into the centre house, you may notice a sweet smell in the air. Follow it, and you will find the crepe house.

Soft Japanese-style crepes filled with generous cream and fresh fruit have become a favourite treat for almost every international skier who visits 2in1.

Meet Blanche — one of the six ski areas of 8 Peaks Resort.

If your family loves wide, beautifully groomed slopes, Blanche is a must-visit.

Start your morning on freshly groomed corduroy and enjoy smooth, wide turns before the slopes get busy. For skiers who love carving, this is one of the best feelings at 8 Peaks Resort.

From the summit, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the 8 Peaks mountain range — the symbol of our resort — and, on clear days, even Mt. Fuji in the distance.

And don’t forget to meet the Ski Jizo at the top of the mountain. This charming Jizo statue wears skis and watches over all skiers and snowboarders, wishing everyone a safe day on the snow. Be sure to take a photo in the same pose!

Worried that the summit is only for advanced skiers?

Not at Blanche.

While there are advanced runs for confident skiers, families can also enjoy an all-green course from the summit to the base — about 3.7 km long. It is a wonderful challenge for families, and by the time you reach the bottom, everyone will feel a little more confident and proud.

For children, Blanche also has one of the largest kids’ parks in the area, with banana boats, kids’ snowmobiles, tubing sleds and plenty of snow fun.

When it is time for lunch, head to Restaurant Baum, a food court with four different dining options. The menus are shown with photos, so ordering is easy — although choosing what to eat may be the hardest part!

You might also meet Blanche’s white bear mascots skiing or snowboarding around the resort. They are very friendly, very cute, and surprisingly good on the snow. Don’t be shy — they are always happy to take photos with guests.

Fresh grooming, summit views, a family-friendly long green run, a huge kids’ park and plenty of smiles.

Discover Pilatus Tateshina — one of the six ski areas of 8 Peaks Resort.

Known as the second-highest ski resort in Japan, Pilatus takes you by ropeway up to 2,237 metres, where breathtaking views of the Japanese Alps await.

And the best part?
You don’t have to ski to enjoy the view. Visitors can also take the ropeway for a round trip and simply enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery.

For skiers, the adventure begins from the summit with a long 4 km course back down the mountain. There are some advanced sections, but most of the route is ideal for intermediate skiers — making it a wonderful goal to aim for once you have built confidence at 8 Peaks Resort.

On the right day, Pilatus is unforgettable.

After fresh snowfall, followed by a clear sunny day, you can cruise through a magical forest of snow-covered trees and rime ice, surrounded by crisp mountain air and incredible winter views.

The lower part of the ski area also has gentler slopes, perfect for practice and relaxed skiing.

At the base, the Swiss-style centre adds even more charm to the experience.

Snow Park: the perfect place for your child’s first snow adventure.

Among the six ski areas of 8 Peaks Resort, Snow Park is especially designed for beginners, first-time skiers and families with young children.

With two lifts and one magic carpet, it is an easy and friendly place to start skiing. Located right next to Ikenotaira Hotel, families can ski, take a break, warm up at the hotel, then head back out again — perfect for little ones experiencing the snow for the first time.

But Snow Park is not just about learning.

The slopes are filled with fun snow features that help children improve naturally while they play. Kids can practise turning through slalom poles, ski over gentle waves, pass through tunnels, and even try “punching ski” as they glide past soft targets.

For families with younger children who are not ready to ski yet, Pota Snow Land is a wonderful place to start. Enjoy sledding, snow racers, fluffy play equipment, animal encounters, and plenty of safe snow play.

There is also a dedicated sledding area with a snow escalator, making it easy for children to ride again and again.

Meet alpacas, rabbits and even owls at the winter animal area, or simply enjoy a relaxed day in the snow as a family.

8 Peaks Snow Sports lessons with native English-speaking instructors can also take place here, helping children and first-time skiers build confidence from day one.
