Swimming in Japan

Swimming in Japan Your guide to Japan's beaches, pools and wild hidden spots. A totally non-scientific take on this may be explained by Japanese culture being pretty rigid.

Japan has been a little slower on the uptake of the rapidly growing wild swimming craze sweeping the world. Telling people that you swam in a lake, for example, can be greeted with disbelief, surprise, and, remarkably, perhaps a rather negative judgement being made about the type of person you are. (Lakes are often for viewing, not swimming in). It is, however, very possible to swim wild in Japan

and there are some wonderful locations. It is hoped that we can help spread the word about this to both foreigners and Japanese people, and help to end the unfair stigma attached to those of us who enjoy jumping into clean, cool waters in harmony with nature.
