Do you get hungrier on rest days!?

Good you’re supposed to!

▪️This is the time our muscles grow and repair if we are training with weights.

▪️Even though we are moving less, our metabolic rate is higher because of muscle breakdown!

❌It’s tempting to eat less than normal if you are also trying lose body fat, but this is counter productive for body recomposition.

✅ You are asking your body to change into something BETTER, so help it change with proper fuel!!

▪️Carbs are your friend along with plenty of protein for muscle growth.

▪️ Inflammation is higher so antioxidant rich foods help soreness.

▪️Don’t forget to hydrate!! Dehydration (like coffee and alcohol) affects recovery.

▪️Remember, what you eat on rest days will fuel your next training day, so set yourself up for a killer workout tomorrow. 💪🏼

🍽️ Let me show you how I broke free from the chains of dieting culture, found balance with all foods and now fuel for strength.

A lot of healing, strength & gratitude has flourished from last Easter to this one!

❌ 𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑: 🐣
▪️Had a Picc line in my arm for 24/7 antibiotics & home nursing care to prevent sepsis and kill infection.
▪️Taking blood thinner shots to prevent blood clots in my leg.
▪️Worried my open wound wouldn’t heal and I’d need a graft.
▪️Night terrors of helicopter crash impact.
▪️Still consistently on pain meds.
▪️Couldn’t walk without a crutch.
▪️Couldn’t shower normally.
▪️Couldn’t drive.
▪️Had my mother-in-law living with us to care for my home and 4 kids.
🙏🏼Still counting my blessings.

✅ 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑: 🐥
▫️Still in recovery, increasing leg strength after fixator removal 5 months ago.
▫️Can walk for miles, swim, bike and do low impact sprints and HIIT.
▫️Have permanent nerve damage and joint limitations, but no pain.
▫️Less frequent bouts of anxiety.
▫️Back to taking care of my family as a SAH mom.
🙏🏼Still counting my blessings.

I’m sure Satan wanted me to say “screw it” and throw in the towel. But that’s not what I chose or will choose to do.

I choose to focus on the overwhelming good in spite of my trials. I choose to stay anchored on God’s promises. I choose to nurture a thankful spirit and continue to shine.

May you find joy, peace and assurance this resurrection weekend too.

Knee felt good walking 5 trail miles again with less fatigue.

I haven’t done this distance since wearing my fixator 4 months ago!

I’m convinced for ever month trapped in a fixator you’ll need the same amount of time to heal and adjust after.

While my bone is super strong now, my surgeon is still wary of me ever returning to frequent running. He hinted at ideally running 8 miles a YEAR at most… 😒

The sheer amount of trauma my cartilage suffered with such a severe tibia plateau fracture could lead to pain and surgeries down the road with high impact, both of which I don’t want.

‼️Did you know know: Running compression forces on your knee cap (patella-femoral joint) can be anywhere from 7 to 11.1 times your body weight and around 500-700 times on each leg for every mile you run.‼️

I get extremely emotional with the reality I’ll never distance run these trails again. I used to average 20 miles a week and do 60+ mile Runcations… but to know for sure how much my knee can take an MRI will be ordered later this year to study my cartilage.

Hopefully I’ll find peace then.

David Goggins talks about the pain you are willing to endure for what you love, but after all I went through last year, chronic pain makes living your life very debilitating and impacts your relationships.

For now, I’ll continue to strengthen this weaker leg, continue to excel in other sports and continue to enjoy being outdoors.. at a slower pace. ✌🏻

Salute to the boyfriends & husbands who suffered today creating the “perfect” Valentine shot.

His threshold was 8 selfies in the middle of everything… fortunately these were acceptable.

Made my holiday memories x2.

💪🏼Every week is similar to this upper/lower body split which allows for variety, but also a structure for compound overload because I’m not here to maintain.

With HIIT/ Cardio included, it’s easy to stay at a lower BF % year round, I don’t worry about steps and my diet is not restrictive. I actually eat 400-500 more calories per day than my 20s + 30s.

Whatever your goals and responsibilities, know there is and can be a balance of nutrition and fitness that enhances your life and isn’t all consuming, restrictive or harmful to your mental health.

Now, let’s celebrate another week: STRONGER!

Scars say you fought a battle… and won.

To some of us, scars mean a second chance at life, but to others it’s a reminder of domestic abuse, self harm or cystic acne.

If you hop on social media, influencers push the narrative that scars make you more beautiful, they make you tough, they should be even flaunted as part of your uniqueness?! The real world is a pretty cruel and judgmental place…

Accepting and embracing a scar is personal journey that is far from easy.

The best thing you can do for someone is to listen to how THEY FEEL and not be quick to tell them how to feel about their imperfections.

Be less judgmental to others because you don’t know their struggle. Perhaps instead be empathetic to them and thankful this isn’t your cross to bear.

I am so thankful I am alive and kept my leg! While many people don’t survive helicopter crashes wholly intact, I don’t need or want scars to be a forever reminder of this horrific experience.

However, I would also take a dozen more scars if I could feel all of my leg again, if my joints moved as freely as before, if I could trail run….

So I push past my mental blocks and comfort zone and wear shorts and dresses again and refuse to let these scars dictate my worth or beauty or zest of life. I refuse to be held back. Life is too short for that.

I have good days and bad. I allow myself to FEEL and ride the raw emotional waves of not only my scar, but my trauma. Healing from this kind of thing takes much longer than people realize.

The most important influencer in your life will always be what you tell yourself. What you embrace to be true and what kind of person you want to become.

Drop a 💖 if you can relate.
