The travertine conundrum!! I have not one but two clients struggling to update large primary bathrooms with travertine floors. Not wanting to completely demo the bathrooms we are replacing other surfaces, adjusting colorways, and updating fixtures but this is a CHALLENGING material to work with!

Travertine is a limestone material usually presenting in earthy tones with a pitted texture. Super popular in the 1990’s when Tuscan-themed materials were also seen as quietly luxurious. But NOW the sentiment is mixed and my job is to work with what we have !!

B&E’s coming your way! So excited to share this vintage-style kitchen I designed with my wonderful clients in Ladd’s Addition.

We worked on a floorplan that accommodated a stunning .officiel Bussy gas range in racing green that my client had coveted for many years. Another criterion - an incorporated writing desk in a sunny nook off the kitchen. I extended the arch juuuust a smidge to fit the panel ready built-in fridge - but the stunning work by makes the arch look OG. The inset cabinets I designed - also built by - were outfitted by every possible internal system to include a “lazy” Susan old school style blind cabinet, custom sized pull out trays and even pull out doors under the sink!

Brazilian soapstone countertops .slabs grounded the custom-formula butter yellow cabinets and walls - expertly mixed by my artist-client 💛💛

Home and era appropriate lighting, new hardwood floors, and a custom hood surround highlight this kitchen that was a joy to collaborate on!!

A basement bath/laundry combination for a sweet Mt. Tabor family. This 1941 farmhouse had an unfinished basement with surprisingly high ceilings - but the project was challenged by sloping site conditions, a tight pair of windows in the bathroom, historic drain lines, and a need for a dedicated utility room, not to mention the general needs of a multipurpose room to include laundry, large shower, ample storage and vanity space - plus of course it had to be pretty!

Working with my clients, I provided several layout options for them to consider and we landed on this one that provided an opportunity for matching vanities, a significant shower, and a pathway into the utility room.

The resulting room is both bright and airy while also vintage feeling with first green hex floors and biscuit colored shower tiles. Highlights include a wall mounted sink faucet, a deep vanity sink that double as a soaking tub, gorgeous dark-green and beige quartz, Japanese glazed floortiles, a massive shower pan and custom wood paneling to enclose the stackable washer/dryer.
