The crazyest race i ve ever done - and survived
1300 bikes roaring on this mythic beach in the high north of france, 15km long track, a 6km straight line, a lot of rain, wind, and temparatures around 5 degrees, the sand as heavy and deep as it can get. Hundreds of thousends of motoenthousiasts who cheer for each rider who has the courage to dig through this hell for over 3h.
I had 3 months to discover this new world of sandraces from scratch. I had nobody to turn to, nobody to ask. So by asking arround, getting some pieces of information from here and there, and some friends motivated to do big distances with me to reach deep sand, i learned and evolved weekend by weekend.
As a rallyrider with some decent experience in desert sand i thought it can t be that difficult, i couldn t have been more wrong! The riding, the preparation, the bikesetup and even the organisation is so particular to this discipline. I ve learned so much in that short time and still think i could have done much better if i have had more time and money. But i made it to the finishline, for a first try as a complete newbie thats a win!
If you would have asked me during the race if i would do it again i would politly to f* off. A few hours later, when i was getting warm again and life startet to return slowly back to my body, i allready thought about what to do better the next time.
Beware: This s**t is addictive
