Green Thunder nasce dall'idea di 5 studenti dell'istituto professionale per l'industria e l'artigianato "F. Gli studenti erano Peter Lupo, Giovanni De Maio, Enrico Baccianti, Simone Rocchi e Davide Russo. Nel 2012 i 5 amici partecipano al progetto "Experiment" promosso da Legacoop Imola con l'idea imprenditoriale chiamata "Free Energy Gym". L'idea consisteva in una palestra autoalimentata grazie a
lle cyclette Green Thunder che producevano energia elettrica durante l'allenamento. Grazie a questo progetto, i 5 ragazzi arrivarono secondi a Experiment mentre arrivarono terzi nella rete regionale "Bellacoopia" di Legacoop. Dopo le due vittorie oltre alla grande soddisfazione cresce anche la voglia di trasformare l'idea in realtà ma la strada è ancora lunga. Si decide di modificare il progetto eliminando la palestra e decidendo di produrre soltanto la cyclette Green Thunder e venderla a privati e palestre. Intanto due dei cinque amici decidono di intraprendere un'altra strada, così rimangono Peter Lupo, Giovanni De Maio e Simone Rocchi che a Giugno 2013 partecipano ad "Una nuova idea d'impresa" promosso dall'incubatone imolese Innovami. Purtroppo però l'idea della Green Thunder non ottiene abbastanza successo classificando i tre soci tra i primi dieci ma non tra i primi tre. Da allora anche un altro dei soci decide prendere un'altra strada. Rimangono così Peter Lupo e Giovanni De Maio a portare avanti il sogno, la strada è lunga e in salita ma stanno lavorando molto per la realizzazione del primo prototipo reale.
