VOLTERRA in the very center of Tuscany, is one of the oldest always inhabited cities of Italy. well known for the Etruscan heritage, the recently refurbished Guarnacci museum above all, and for the unique alabaster artifacts. nevertheless, it is still rather genuine, spared by the invasive big bus tours. only students and expert Italy s lovers go there. it is not a Città del vino, but it reveals a few good wineries, like this one that we just visited. besides that Volterra is halfway between Chianti Classico and Bolgheri, the more classic and the more innovative Tuscan wine zones.
