HIGH BLOOD CHOLESTEROL LEVEL TEST AND EXAM:
A cholesterol test is done to diagnose a lipid disorder. Some guidelines recommend having your first screening cholesterol test at age 20. Everyone should have their first screening test by age 35 in men, and age 45 in women.

It is important to work with your health care group
(Docter & Dietician) to set your cholesterol goals.

General targets are:

* LDL: 70-130 mg/dL (lower numbers are better)
* HDL: more than 40-60 mg/dL (high numbers are better)
*Total cholesterol: less than 200 mg/dL (lower number are better)
* Triglycerides: 10-150 mg/dL (lower numbers are better)

If your cholesterol results are abnormal, your doctor may also do:

* Blood sugar (glucose) test to look for diabetes.
*Kidney function tests.
*Thyroid function tests to look for an underactive thyroid gland.

*Control high blood pressure through diet, exercise, and medicines, if needed.

* Exercise at least 30 minutes a day.
*Maintain a healthy weight by eating Balance diet, and joining a weight loss program.
*Limit how much alcohol you drink.
*Avoid co***ne and other illegal drugs.
*Talk to your doctor about the risk of birth control pills. Birth control pills can increase the chance of blood clots, which can lead to stroke. Clots are more likely in women who also smoke and who are older than 35.

AVOID FOOD POISONING DURING HOLIDAY TRAVEL:

*Before eating or preparing food, wash hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
* Bring hand sanitizer or moist towelettes, in case soap and water aren't available.
* Pack perishables in a cooler with ice. Make sure the temperature of the food stays below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Freeze a juice box to enjoy on a plane or train. Store it in a soft cooler to help keep other foods cold.
* Pack non-perishable snacks, such as crackers, pretzels, dried and whole fruits, small boxes of cereal, plain popcorn, peanut butter or raisins.
*Toss any perishable foods that you don't refrigerate or eat within two hours.
