India's true first Olympian. A long distance runner, participated in the Marathon at 1920 Antwerp, Belgium Olympics and finished 19th. P. D.
A rare achievement by an Indian till date. (Phadeppa Dareppa) Chaugule was the first Indian Olympian, who participated in the seventh Olympic games held in 1920 at Antwerp, Belgium. He was a long distance runner and competed in 10000 meters and the Marathon. He completed the Marathon at 19th place (a great achievement for an Indian at that time and even today). He was a member of 6 sportspersons' team. India participated in Olympics as a separate country for the first time in 1920.
