Today we bring to you the rare 1954 Maserati A6GCS/53 Berlinetta

In the fifties, Maserati launched a sports car derived from the world of racing, with elegant design and perfect proportions: the Maserati A6 GCS/53 Berlinetta. The story of the Berlinetta is a very unusual one; the car was styled by Pininfarina, winning the Maserati A6GCS/53 Berlinetta the undisputed status of one of the most beautiful cars of all time. A sleek but sporty design, a distinctively Maserati front, a large oval radiator grille with the Trident logo in the middle and genuine racing-car performance. Only four were built, and collectors continue to fight hard to own one, in spite of the incredibly high prices they command.

styled by Pininfarina, the A6GCS Berlinetta was one of the prettiest Maseratis and its racing pedigree was only trumped by its flowing lines and taught proportions. Underneath the skin of this car is a race-bred chassis built by Gilco that was intended for events such as the prestigious Mille Miglia.

The A6GCS chassis was a derivative of the A6 Sportscar that was powered by a short-stroke, double ignition, inline-6 that was one of the last units designed by the Maserati brothers before their departure. Developed initially for Formula 2, the A6 would rev freely up to 7300 rpm and produce 170 bhp.

Stuck in a restricting contract with Ferrari, the Pinin Farina Berlinetta couldn’t be sold directly by Maserati. So Rome dealer Giuglielmo Dei acquired six bare chassis and commissioned Pininfarina to complete four cars – no doubt protested by Enzo Ferrari.

One car appeared on the Pinin Farina stand at the 1952 Turin Motor Show and another sister car at the Paris Motor Show. At Rome’s ‘Concorso Internazionale d’Eleganza,’ #2057, a stunning two-tone coupe with an extra low roof line, took the top prize.
While the achievements of the A6GCS Coupe in motor sports were minimal, their beautiful styling was exciting enough. In 1996, one of the cars, chassis 2059, sold for $3.7 million USD.
Of the four chassis, 2056 & 2059 remain largely original while 2057 & 2060 were rebodied as spyders. The spare bodies were placed on two more cars, so six original Pinin Farina Coupes existed although never at the same time.

What, at first glance, might look like a slightly odd mishmash of Ferrari 250 GTO and 250 GT Lusso is in fact a potent four-litre Grand Tourer prototype, built to keep Ferrari on top of its game in 1963.

With just four Ferrari 330 LMB ( Le Mans Berlinetta ) ever built, using an almost identical four-litre V12 to that found in the 1962 Le Mans-winning 330 TRI, it is both rarer and more technologically advanced than the hallowed GTO.

This example – chassis number 4381 SA – is significant for myriad reasons, not least because of its competition history both in period, when it was run by the Works and driven by the likes of Mike Parkes and Lorenzo Bandini, and at numerous historic motorsport events over the last 20 years. It starred at the Scuderia Ferrari’s 1963 season-opening press conference, alongside the team’s new mid-engine 250P prototype, and would subsequently go on to become the first car to surpass 300kph on the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans, where sadly it would retire after qualifying an impressive second in class.

It was in modern historic racing that the car got a second wind, though, where, in the hands of racing legends such as Derek Bell, Bobby Rahal, Tom Kristensen and Emanuele Pirro, it achieved notable results including victory in the prestigious RAC Tourist Trophy at the Goodwood Revival, evidencing its pace. Despite its storied sporting career, it retains its original bodywork, interior and engine.

Taking into consideration the rarity of the LMB, Hagerty Insurance lists the average value of a 1963 Ferrari 330 LMB around $32 million

Today we present yet another Max Hoffman brainchild , The 1956 BMW 507.

Max Hoffman, then the East Coast importer of European sports and luxury cars. Hoffman believed the roadster could slot in nicely between the relatively inexpensive Triumphs and MGs coming out of England, and the exclusive Mercedes 300SL.

A far cry from the motorcycle-engined Isetta, the 507 was based on the 502 sedan chassis and mechanicals, and it took its shape from designer Albrecht Goertz. Power came from a 3.2-liter, aluminum alloy V8. The overhead valve, pushrod unit breathed through a pair of Solex carbs, produced 155 horsepower, and was mated to a ZF four-speed manual transmission. Top speed was rated at just over 120 mph.

All 507s were roadsters, though BMW offered an optional removable steel hard top. Even without the hard top in place, the 507 tipped the scales at 2,900 pounds, so its svelted looks belied its heft.

BMW at the time was still a small manufacturer that relied on complex, hand-built designs, and while Hoffman envisioned selling the car for about $5,000, the reality was closer to $9,000—an astronomical sum in the mid-1950s. As a result, the planned production run of about 5,000 per year went out the window, and in the end, just 252 cars were built over three years.

The BMW 507 was praised in period for good straight-line speed, and despite its weight and Alfin drum brakes rather than discs, the front double wishbones/torsion bar and live rear axle/torsion bar suspension made it something of a nimble handler.

In pristine " concours " condition , this vehicle is valued at
$16,00,000.

Today I bring to you , one of my most favourite street racing car ever , The 1954 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing Coupe.

The idea of a toned-down Grand Prix car tailored to affluent performance enthusiasts in the booming post-war American market was suggested by Max Hoffman.[2] Mercedes accepted the gamble and the new 300 SL – 300 for its 3.0 litre engine displacement and SL for Sport Leicht (Sport Light) – was introduced at the 1954 New York Auto Show rather than the Frankfurt or Geneva gatherings company models made their usual debuts.

Immediately successful and today iconic, the 300 SL stood alone with its distinctive doors, first-ever production fuel injection, and world's fastest top speed.

This exceptional example is one of only 146 that were built in 1954. This car was originally purchased by the late Willet H. Brown/Hillcrest Motors Collection, at Hollywood Mercedes. With only 4,149 original miles this Gullwing is one of the lowest mileage Gullwing's in existence. It comes with original tools, manual, service book and registration card from 1962-1965. Having been repainted once, in its original color, everything else on the car is all original. This car was sold at the Scottsdale Auction 2012 at a whopping 22,00,000 $

Jeep owners in our country feel , that they are still living in the Victorian era and you need to beg them to get details of their jeeps , so that we may feature them on our page. So we wont be featuring jeeps an their respective owners so sometime now on this page.

So lets move on to other glorious automobiles that the world has to offer .

Toady we bring to you the larger than life , The 1917 Fiat Botafogo Special.

Early-20th-century plane engines were simply bigger and better-constructed versions of automotive powerplants. All the moving parts were machined to aircraft standards, which were much higher than a car's for obvious reasons. They had redundant features, such as two ignition systems, in case one didn't work.

After World War I, a small group of speed enthusiasts started putting surplus warplane engines in big and sturdy car frames. It was a tremendous feat of engineering. With that giant engine in the car, you were basically flying on the ground.

The Botafogo Special was built by an Argentine racer named Adolfo Scandroglio. He was an admirer of Sir Ernest Eldridge, who owned the legendary, record-setting Fiat Mephistopheles racer that went 146 mph in 1924 on a public road in France. Scandroglio built this car as a copy and named it after the racehorse Botafogo, Argentina's Secretariat.

Sadly, Scandroglio was killed while racing this car in 1949. Then the Botafogo disappeared. Luckily, the engine was found in the 1990s by the guys at Pur Sang, an Argentine company that builds exact replicas (recreates) of Bugatti Type 35s and Alfa Romeo 8C 2300s. They reconstructed the car and added an old Mercedes-Benz four-speed transmission and two rear-wheel drum brakes.

The car is now owned by Jay Leno ( The Tonight Show fame ) who also is one the most famous car and motorcycle collector in the world.

Technical Details
21.7-liter Fiat A.12 engine
six huge cylinders with four valves each
overhead cams
twin magnetos
Each piston's displacement is bigger than that of a 3-liter engine
320 hp at 1800 rpm

He started his work life at a very tender age of 16 - 17 years , helping his uncle in one of the family business of trading in sea food at crawford market.

With the business acumen that he acquired at a tender age , he further on in life managed to have his own construction company and his own restaurant.

In the early 90's he had everything going for him as planned . At a young age , he was the CEO of East West Constructions , he also owned and ran a famous Mughlai restaurant in Khandala , which served the best butter chicken in the 150 km radius.

He was always a outdoor person and loved the flora and fauna that the Indian subcontinent had to offer. But his responsibilities always kept him away from the wild . Then one day the wilderness bug bit him real hard and he gave everything up and started off on a journey , which only a few can dream of and even fewer can accomplish.

His destination was a small village named Kusur , inhabited by the local adivasi and surrounded by the sahyadri mountain ranges , which was teeming with wildlife . When he commenced to convert the wilderness into his home , it was more of a barren ground with only 3 standing trees. During his tenure in Kusur , he personally planted more than a 1000 evergreen saplings , which during the course of time grew into large trees . The barren land was converted into a lush green abode , with a small eco system of its own.

As a rare and unique individual , he has donned a lot of stetson hats on his capable head . From being one of the best Marwari horse to big dog breeders and trainer in the country, to being one of the best farmhouse architects and landscapers that western Maharashtra has to offer . He is also famous for training and breeding the notorious Belgian Malinois.

Its now been more than 30 years , that this man has been living in the wild and has been living the jeep lifestyle in the true sense.

Without further ado , its a great honour and a matter of privilege to introduce our followers to the " living legend " Junaid Merchant. at 6 feet 2 inches tall and well built ,to strangers he comes across as a eccentric and no nonsense personality . But for friends he is a Big gentle giant , humble despite all the accomplishments in his life , a man still in touch with his values passed on to him by his father , mother and uncle , a man who stands by you during your trying times , a man who intensely indulges in charity work without the world knowing about it .

The best host , a thorough gentleman , impeccable dressing sense along with impeccable local dialect and victorian english with the diction to match it . One of the most charming and the most ruggedly handsome man i have ever met in person.

Junaid bhai ( as we lovingly call him ) has built , restored and driven more vintage jeeps that we can think about . He has owned and maintained everything thing , from a 1942 ford to a land rover defender .

In this introduction , we shall highlight his CJ2A which has been with him , since he moved to the wilderness and has worked like a mule and a daily transport.

once again , it is a matter of honour and special privilege to have him as a part of this humble group . Thank you Junaid Merchant for being a part of our lives and making us a part of your life as well.

What happens when you come across a 1942 Ford GPW , instead of a Mercedes S 350 , in a place like Malabar Hill ?

Well , what happens is that you get lucky enough to have Basil Adil walk into your life.

A resident of one of one of the most expensive , real estate areas in Mumbai . He chooses to drive his Ford on a daily basis rather than other fancy high end cars.

There is never a dull moment when he is around , well spoken , well dressed and the most charming vintage jeep owner i have ever met .

Basil acquired his 1942 Ford in 2010 . That is when the love affair started and they are still going strong. The Ford amuses a lot of high end , south Mumbai residents , when she chugs up and down the Victorian streets . She has also proved her mettle by completing a 2500 km round trip from Mumbai to the Gir forest and back, with the only mechanical casualty being a broken accelerator cable.

We welcome Basil to this community and we wish him many more memorable and glitch free years with his beloved 1942 Ford.

What happens when a professional photographer gets bitten by the jeep bug ?

Allow me to introduce you to Yusuf Kathawala , photographer by profession ( Working as a sales and service manager with Nikon India for the past 07 years ) and jeep addict by passion.

Yusuf has donned various hats on his creative head . Portraits , Wildlife photography , Wedding photography , sports photography and latest would be documentary making about the off road events and culture in the Indian sub continent .

A person who was selected as sales and service representative for Nikon India in the Rio Olympics .

i was intrigued , as to why would a person of his repute drive and own a jeep. Yusuf said " The jeep gives me freedom , it represents me , and it is as unique as my signature . Also it is a very effective and pleasurable mode of transport during winters and monsoon". " Whenever i need to escape the city life and head into the wild , to soak in some peace , the jeep takes me there ".

Yusuf hit the jeep jackpot in 2010 , when he came across a army auctioned MM 550 . He took up the initiative to painstakingly restore the jeep ( back to its original form with XD3P powerplant + 4 speed gearbox and 4x4 ) and fell in love during the process . The love affair still continues.

We wish this talented man , all the best for his future endeavour and more memorable moments and trips with his jeep.

What does it take , for a teenager to leave his friends , his family and the convenience of a city life ..to move to an isolated and forested area in one corner of the world.

Allow me to introduce you to Sameer Jetpur who says that , his love for the wilderness , the emotional bond between him and his ancestral land , the mansion built upon it and his four legged family members ..pulled him to this wild haven.

His claim to mechanical fame came in 2106 , when he retrofitted his Armada Grand with the mighty 3200 MDI powerplant and completely refurbished the jeep , right from the electricals to the upholstery . All this in just 31 days.

We welcome him to this community and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours and may he surprise us with many more amazing jeeps.
