How to Talk so Kids can Learn ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The goal of the workshop is to help you communicate more effectively with children. It will introduce to a set of proven skills that will help the participan
ts to:
a. cope with the child's negative feelings (e.g. disappointment, envy, frustration, resentment, anger, etc.) engage the child's willing cooperation,
c. discipline without hurting or alienating,
d. help the child develop a positive and realistic self-image
e. foster a family atmosphere of love and respect. The workshop is designed for parents, teachers, principals, schools, parent’s associations and caregivers of children. HOW MANY SESSIONS:
There are 7 sessions conducted once a week. Each session lasts for about 2.5 to 3 hours. WHAT WILL BE COVERED IN EACH SESSION?
1. HELPING CHILDREN DEAL WITH THEIR FEELINGS: limit unacceptable behavior, and still maintain goodwill.
2. ENGAGING COOPERATION: without threats, warnings, orders, name-calling, sarcasm, lecturing, etc. Five ways to invite cooperation that will leave parents and children feeling good about themselves and each other.
3. ALTERNATIVES TO PUNISHMENT: that will enable parents to express their strong disapproval as well as encourage children to assume responsibility for their behavior.
4. ENCOURAGING AUTONOMY: Specific skills to help children become separate, responsible and selif reliant people who can one day function on their own.
5. PRAISE - An exploration of the kinds of praise that build a positive and realistic self-image, and the kinds that are counter-productive.
6. FREEING CHILDREN FROM PLAYING ROLES: e.g. bully, whiner, dawdler, mischief-maker, etc. Six skills that help children see themselves in a different and more positive light.
7. FINAL REVIEW: "Back-to-life", a chance to consolidate what's been learned by applying all the skills of the previous sessions to current problems with children.
