With the conclusion of the action-packed knock-out round on Saturday, today will mark the commencement of the quarter-finals with two highly appealing fixtures set for a showdown in today's matchday at the iconic Phungkhothang Guite Mawltual (Lamka Football Ground), Hiangtam Lamka.

Today's first quarter-final match will be a titanic showdown between two hot contenders in the name of SYMROPIA FC and Golngai FC while District football giants Ganggam Soccer Club entertains Dynamic Football Academy in the day's second quarter-final fixture.

SYMROPIA FC and Golngai FC were among those clubs considered early tournament favourites and as expected they have reached this stage without much hardship. So far, SYMROPIA FC scored 7 goals and conceded 1 goal while Golngai FC scored 5 goals and conceded one. Looking at the statistics, past history as well as the quality of players, it looks really hard to predict for the outcome of this match.

SYMROPIA FC were eliminated in the quarter-finals last edition while Golngai FC reached the final but lost to Kuki Sporting Club in the final showpiece last term.

The day's second match will be a clash between Ganggam Soccer Club and Dynamic Football Academy. Despite having won some other prominent tournaments in the District, Ganggam Soccer Club had rarely made big statements in Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament. Having that in mind, they are all but determined to go all the way to the final stages. Meanwhile, Dynamic Football Academy produced headline-grabbing performances in recent tournaments across the district and with their giant-killing instinct, they might be hopeful of triggering an upset on Ganggam SC today. Ganggam SC overcame Neihsial Veng YC 1-0 in the knock-out round while Dynamic Football Academy finished Group G as pool champions and qualified for the quarter-finals.

The much fan-fare 78th Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026 edition which got underway in full swing since 15th January, 2026 at Phungkhothang Guite Mawltual (Lamka Football Ground), Hiangtam Lamka, is now on a 4-days break due to the preparation and celebration of the District Level Republic Day at the same venue.

With group-stage actions having crossed its halfway stages, contenders SYMROPIA FC became the first and only team to make it to the knock-out round after two wins in as many matches.

Another top contenders Zomi FC and Golngai FC also made a bright start with the former thrashing YC Pearsonmun 6-2 in their opening match while the latter earned a hard-fought 1-0 win against Sinlung Football Academy.

Also, another district football power-house Ganggam Soccer Club earned big wins with a 3-0 demolition of PLL Academy while Happy Feet Football Academy produced the biggest upset of the tournament so far by edging past Lamka Sports Club 1-0.

Newly established football academy Love FA also continued their dream run by topping Group B with a win and a draw and they are in the driving seat for knock-out round qualification. FC Zotal also have a terrific start with one win and a draw. The Shepherd's Football Academy also have good chance of knock-out round progress with one win and a draw from Group A.

Surprisingly, District Super Division League side Bungmual YC had a campaign to forget as they suffered back-to-back defeats in Group B thus having left themselves with no chance of knock-out qualification despite having one match to play. Group A outfit Papa FC experienced the same fate to that of Bungmual YC.

Meanwhile, owing to late matchday fixture and fixture postponement, 5 teams namely - Haiciin FC, D. Phailien FC, Zenhang Lamka YC, 1st IRB and Neihsial Veng YC are still waiting for their first match of the tournament.

Now, with the group-stage actions of the tournament crossing its half-way stages, all the remaining matches are now crucial and a deciding one. Group-Stage fixtures will be concluded on 3rd February, 2026.

The tournament is participated by 25 strong clubs including 2 guest teams from Kangpokpi District and the group-stage of the tournament is in such a way that 23 teams are grouped into 7 different pools. The two top-ranked teams from each group will qualify for the knock-out round. Team emerging champions will receive cash incentives of ₹2 Lakhs while the runners-up will be rewarded with ₹1 Lakh. The two losing semi-finalists will also earn Rs. 10,000 each while there will be a Man-of-the-Match Award from the quarter-finals onwards. There are also special awards for players emerging as Top-Scorer, Best Player and Best Goalkeeper.

📃 Pool-Wise Analysis

As we all know, 25 teams are participating in our esteemed tournament. Among these, except for two guest teams from Kangpokpi District, the remaining 23 teams are grouped into 7 different pools. Pool A and B have 4 teams while the other 5 pools are of 3-team affairs. The top two teams from each group will go through to the knock-out round. If teams are locked with equal points, head-to-head record will come first into effect to determine rankings of teams.

Group A
Teams from Group A have played 2 games each. SYMROPIA FC are already guaranteed of a place next round thanks to their two consecutive wins. The remaining slot will be fought by The Shepherd's Football Academy (4 pts) and Khallai FC (1 pt).

Group B
Teams from Pool B have also played 2 games each so far. Love Football Academy (4 pts) and FC Zotal (4 points) are leading the race but District Police (3 pts with huge goal difference advantage) are also in contention.

Group C
Only one match of the three games assigned with Group C has been played which Ganggam SC won 3-0 against PLL Academy. They all have chances of qualifying and that will be decided in the remaining two games that will also involve Haiciin FC.

Group D
Like Group C, this Group D is also still undecided. Zomi FC are the front-runners after a 6-2 win against YC Pearsonmun but chance is still there for YC Pearsonmun and that will be decided based on their performance against Neihsial Veng YC.

Group E
Golngai FC won the only match of this group 1-0 against Sinlung FA. If Sinlung FA lost again tomorrow against 1st IRB FC, they will be eliminated. Anything is still possible though.

Group F
In the first match of Group F, Happy Feet Football Academy earned a 1-0 win against Lamka Sports Club. Zenhang Lamka YC will play their first match tomorrow against Happy Feet Football Academy.

Group G
The first match of this group ended in a 1-1 draw between Dynamic Football Academy and Chikim Northeast Youngsters Football Academy. Chances are wide open for all teams that also include D. Phailien FC.

SYMROPIA FC came from behind to enter knock-out round

The high-intensity Group A match began in a high note as the two sides exchanged heavy tackles, box-to-box encounter and it was Khallai FC who went first in front as Zamminlien capitalised and popped in a poor clearance by SYMROPIA FC goalkeeper Nehgou to silent the crowd in disbelief. SYMROPIA FC surged forward and moved in haste but Khallai FC stayed strong and despite SYMROPIA FC having a glorious chance of getting back into the game when Peter Khumrolian directed his header that rattled the crossbar, the first-half ended 1-0 in favour of Khallai FC.

The match restarted on a high note but Khallai FC clung to their lead. However, SYMROPIA FC's relentless attack resulted in towering defender Pauginmuan heading in a corner to make the score 1-1 seven minutes into the restart. 3 minutes later, SYMROPIA FC completed the turnaround as William Neihsial struck with a left foot shot of what became the winner as SYMROPIA FC clinched a 2-1 win to become the first team to enter the knock-out round.

The remaining slot for Group A will be decided in the last group match.

Paokhongam and William Neihsial on target as SYMROPIA FC clinched comfortable 2-0 win

The highly anticipated Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026 Edition got to a thrilling kick-off today as contenders SYMROPIA FC opened their campaign with a convincing 2-0 win against Papa FC (Stephenian) at Phungkhothang Guite Mawltual (Lamka Football Ground), Hiangtam Lamka.

The grand opening ceremony was graced by Shri Vungzagin Valte, Hon'ble MLA, 56-Thanlon; Shri L.M. Khaute, Hon'ble MLA, 58-Ccpur; Shri Vumsuan Naulak, Chairman, Zomi Council and Shri Thangkhosuanmung Guite, Chief of Hiangtam Lamka, as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, Chief Host and Functional President respectively. After a short ceremony, Chief Guest Shri Vungzagin Valte kicked off the tournament wherein SYMROPIA FC claimed 2-0 wins with a goal by Paokhongam Haokip and a William Neihsial's penalty.

As expected, the match was a one-sided one as SYMROPIA FC were in control right from the start but it was Papa FC who went close to scoring against the run of play as SYMROPIA FC custodian Lamgoulian Tungnung almost gifted them the opener as his tame effort almost resulted in the ball spilling across the goalline. However, it was SYMROPIA FC who got a well-deserved opener when Paokhongam Haokip headed in a delightful cross from William Neihsial midway through the first-half. The second-half saw Papa FC showing little improvement and the match was put into bed when SYMROPIA FC doubled their lead in the 56th minute when William Neihsial scored from the penalty spot after right-back Paul Paumuan Khongsai was tripped inside the penalty box. With Papa FC making no response, SYMROPIA FC emerged 2-0 winners to take pole position of Group A.

In tomorrow's first match, District Super Division side Bungmual YC will be taking on First Division outfit FC Zotal while District Police take on Love Football Academy in the second match.

After long wait and preparation, the 78th Zomi Nam Ni Football Tournament 2026 Edition will be kick-off today at Phungkhothang Guite Mawltual (Lamka Football Ground), Hiangtam Lamka.
The opening match will be played between two Group A rivals SYMROPIA FC and Papa FC. SYMROPIA FC have been a football force in Lamka since the year 2017 and maintaining high consistency, they were in Manipur's second-tier league - the AMFA Cup before the outbreak of the present Manipur violence. Meanwhile, Papa FC have made serious impact in various football tournaments in the district but officially, they are in 1st Division League under DSA Churachandpur.
SYMROPIA FC have a highly expensive squad blended with some top star players and they are amongst few teams having been considered favourites but their resolves will be tested today whether they could prove their worth or succumb to pressure.
Group A consists of SYMROPIA FC, Papa FC, The Shepherd's Football Academy and Khallai FC. The top two teams from each group will go through to the knock-out round.
