Wajid Peer — The Bat That Made the Difference

In the Super Knockout clash between Drugmulla Strikers and Malik Sports Kupwara at iconic Galizoo stadium Kupwara.
Wajid Peer produced a sensational batting performance when his team needed it most.
Batting first, Drugmulla Strikers posted 179/8 in 18 overs, with Wajid Peer leading the charge with a brilliant 70 off just 33 balls*.
His innings was packed with attacking cricket — 8 fours and 4 sixes — as he took the game away from the opposition with fearless strokeplay.
Drugmulla Strikers then delivered with the ball, bowling Malik Sports Kupwara out for 103 in 16.4 overs to secure a convincing 76-run victory.

DRUGMULLA — OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Today’s incident during our match At Bandwader Hatmulla against Cousin Brothery Hyhama deeply disappointing and completely against the spirit of cricket.

With the opposition requiring 18 runs from 5 balls, the batter played the second ball towards the boundary. Our fielder, while attempting the catch near the boundary line, managed to save the ball and threw it back inside the field. The umpire initially awarded 1 run.

The opposition challenged the decision despite the fielder’s effort being witnessed by spectators and others present at the ground. The umpire subsequently declared the ball dead. Even then, the opposition refused to accept the decision.

After consultation with our team, the umpire finally decided to award 6 runs. Despite this decision going completely against us, RCC Drugmulla respected the umpire’s decision and maintained discipline. We did not argue, abuse, threaten or create any disturbance.

Unfortunately, the opposition chose to leave the ground and, instead of accepting the umpire’s decision as part of the game, a confrontation followed involving the umpire and some of our players.

This is where the real difference was visible.

For us, cricket is not only about winning. It is about respect, discipline, sportsmanship and accepting the decision of the officials, whether it goes in our favour or against us.

We have faced decisions in the past that did not favour RCC Drugmulla, and we accepted them because an umpire’s decision must be respected on the field. We expect the same standard from every team participating in the game.

Winning a match is never bigger than the dignity of the sport.

RCC Drugmulla will always stand for fair play, respect for officials and true sportsmanship. We strongly condemn any behaviour that crosses the line from disagreement into confrontation or misbehaviour.

We may lose a match, but we will never compromise on our discipline, dignity and respect for the game of cricket.

CRICKET IS A GAME OF PASSION BUT RESPECT MUST ALWAYS COME FIRST.

We, the management of RCC Drugmulla, are sincerely thankful to the entire cricket fraternity, all cricket loving people, supporters, and well wishers for their valuable support, encouragement, and solidarity throughout the recent issue.

We are pleased to inform everyone that the matter has now been resolved amicably, with the tournament management deciding to conduct a rematch.

We appreciate the management for taking a fair and sporting decision. For us, cricket is not only about winning or losing it is about fair play, transparency, sportsmanship, and respect for the game.

RCC Drugmulla accepts the decision in the true spirit of cricket and looks forward to the rematch with full confidence, positivity, and sportsmanship.
