Your most helpful employee may be hiding your most broken system.
Every organisation has one person who quietly keeps everything moving.
A customer issue appears. They solve it.
Someone misses a deadline. They cover it.
Information is unclear. They find the answer.
A process fails. They create a temporary solution.
Because the final result looks fine, leaders believe the system is working.
But it may not be.
That dependable employee could be acting as a human shock absorber, absorbing every mistake, delay and communication gap before it reaches management.
The real problem becomes visible only when that person takes leave, changes roles or resigns.
Suddenly, customer complaints increase. Deadlines are missed. Teams become confused. Everyone says:
โThings were running so smoothly before.โ
They were not running smoothly.
One person was carrying the weight of a weak system.
Appreciate such employees, but do not make their helpfulness your operating model.
Study the problems they repeatedly solve. Improve the process. Build capability in the team. Remove the need for daily rescue.
A strong organisation should not depend on invisible heroics to deliver visible results.
Is your most dependable employee creating excellence or continuously protecting a weak system?
