Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University’s Gatka Team Achieves Remarkable Success at National Level

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, has achieved a significant milestone with an outstanding performance at the All India Inter-University Gatka Championship 2025–26. The University’s girls’ team secured the overall third position, while the boys’ team clinched the second position, bringing laurels to the institution.
The championship, held from April 22 to April 26, 2026, at the University of Kota, witnessed participation from around 700 players representing 34 universities across the country. A total of 30 players (16 girls and 14 boys) represented the University.
In the girls’ category, the team excelled by winning medals in all events and securing 26 points overall. Inderpreet Kaur (B.A. Part II, Department of Punjabi) brought pride by winning a Gold Medal in the individual single stick event. The boys’ team also delivered an impressive performance, securing 28 points and the overall second position.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Prit Pal Singh congratulated the team and motivated them for greater achievements ahead. Dean Academic Affairs Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Billing highlighted the University’s one-year diploma course in Gatka (running since 2019 with the support of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala’ Charitable Trust and Dr. S.P. Singh Oberoi), which is nurturing skilled players and coaches.
Dr. Varinder Singh Bhullar shared that the team has consistently excelled at national and SGPC-organized Khalsai Games, including a second position at National Gatka Competitions and first position at the Punjab State Inter-University Youth Festival 2025.
