The Birthday Invitation That Never Came 🎈
When I was in 5th grade, the most popular girl in class handed out birthday invitations. One by one, colorful envelopes with glittery stickers were passed around. Excited whispers filled the room — what to wear, what to gift, what games they’d play.
I waited. And waited. But my name was never called.
I walked home that day with a heavy heart, feeling like I didn’t belong.
That night, I asked my mother, “Why do some people get picked and others don’t?”
She hugged me tight and said,
“Sometimes people forget your magic. But that doesn’t mean it’s gone.”
Years later, as a career coach working with women restarting their journeys after breaks, I see that same feeling — the pain of being overlooked, of waiting for a chance that doesn’t come.
But here’s the truth I want every woman to know:
Just because you weren’t invited to the party, doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to shine.
