Empowering athletes, promoting talent, and representing Delhi with pride since 1953.
Soon after the formation of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) in 1951, the Delhi State Rifle Association (DSRA) was established in 1953, with the objective of promoting shooting sports amongst citizens of Delhi and also to train them in the safe use of guns and armament both for
self-defence and National defence in times of emergency. The aim was to impart proper training and inculcate a sense of discipline in handling firearms and develop qualities of sportsmanship, fearlessness and patriotism in the spirit of public service. DSRA played a commendable role during the Chinese incursion of 1962 by training around 2000 citizens in the use of guns and armament to contribute in the defence of the country. DSRA still continues with this important commitment to prepare citizens for action during the times of national crises. As an affiliate of NRAI, DSRA organises District and State-level Shooting Championships and also Inter-School Shooting Championships, providing a platform for nurturing talent in competitive shooting, especially the youth, to enable them to flourish at the national and international level. Several of our shooters have won laurels and brought up the name of Delhi State. The Association also selects a team for representing Delhi State in the National Games. With the popularity of shooting as a sport soaring year after year, DSRA too has endeavoured to keep pace with the growing enthusiasm. Shooting equipment like rifles, pistols and shotguns along with their ammunition are available for members for practicing shooting at the shooting ranges in Delhi. Coaching is provided under personal supervision of experienced and renowned shooters, with more and more additions being made each year. The Governing Body of DSRA comprises of state and national level renowned shooters who have both the skill and dedication to achieve the aims and objectives of the Association. The current Chairman of DSRA, Shri Jaspal Rana is a world-record holding legendary shooter with a medallist career best haul of nearly 600 medals at Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. He is also an Olympian, Arjuna Awardee Dronacharya Awardee, Padmashri and High Performance Coach for the Indian Shooting Team.
