🏏 Coach SP Yadav — The Routine, Dedication & Discipline Required to Reach a Higher Level
A talented player can have good skills, but talent alone is not enough to reach a higher level in cricket. To progress from club cricket to state, national, or professional cricket, a player needs the right routine, dedication, training plan, attitude, consistency, and discipline.
Coach SP Yadav explains that a player’s success is built through the way he or she uses every 24 hours.
1. Dedication Towards Cricket 🎯
A serious player must be committed to improvement every day.
* Come to training with a clear purpose.
* Work on weaknesses instead of only practicing favourite shots.
* Give full concentration during every session.
* Be willing to repeat skills until they become natural.
* Understand that progress takes time and patience.
* Stay committed even when results are not immediately visible.
Dedication means doing the right work consistently, even when nobody is watching.
2. Follow a Proper Training Lesson Plan đź“‹
Training should not be random. Every player should have a structured lesson plan based on their current level and development needs.
A good training plan can include:
Warm-up & Movement → Technical Skills → Batting/Bowling Skills → Advanced Drills → Match Situations → Fitness → Recovery → Performance Review
The coach should regularly evaluate the player’s progress and modify the program according to the player’s requirements.
3. Use Your 24 Hours Correctly ⏰
A high-level player must learn how to manage time.
A player’s day should include proper time for:
* Cricket training
* Fitness and mobility
* Recovery and sleep
* Nutrition and hydration
* Study/education
* Mental preparation
* Match analysis and self-review
* Family and personal responsibilities
24 hours is the same for everyone. The difference comes from how intelligently a player uses those hours.
4. Maintain a Positive Attitude đź§
Attitude can make a major difference in a player’s development.
A good player should:
* Respect coaches, teammates and opponents.
* Accept constructive feedback.
* Avoid blaming others for mistakes.
* Learn from failure.
* Stay confident without becoming overconfident.
* Focus on solutions rather than excuses.
* Remain mentally strong during difficult phases.
A coach can show you the path, but the player has to walk that path every day.
5. Build Consistency 🔥
One excellent training session does not make a player successful.
The real difference comes from consistent performance and consistent preparation.
A player should try to maintain consistency in:
* Training
* Fitness
* Skill practice
* Recovery
* Nutrition
* Sleep
* Match preparation
* Mental approach
Consistency turns practice into performance.
6. Discipline Is Non-Negotiable 🏆
Discipline means doing what is required, even when you don’t feel like doing it.
A disciplined player:
* Arrives on time.
* Follows the training plan.
* Takes recovery seriously.
* Maintains fitness.
* Follows the coach’s instructions.
* Avoids unnecessary distractions.
* Takes responsibility for performance.
* Maintains good habits away from the ground.
The Higher-Level Player Mindset
Talent + Proper Training + Dedication + Discipline + Consistency + Positive Attitude + Time Management = Long-Term Development
Remember: Higher-level cricket is not built in one day. It is built through thousands of small, correct decisions made every day.
Coach SP Yadav believes that the objective of training should not simply be to make a player perform well today, but to develop the player’s skills, fitness, confidence, discipline and decision-making for higher-level cricket.
