Aksh*t Siwach โ
They say "A man's feet must be planted in his country but his eyes should survey the entire world". There cannot be a more suitable example to this than our very own Aksh*t Siwach.
Known for his technical knack and aptitude skills, Aksh*t was spontaneous and instant in all the preliminary rounds of campus placements. For some unfortunate reasons, he got eliminated in the HR round of most of the companies. He never took it as being rejected from something good. He was instead being re-directed to something better. Like a literal blessing in disguise, he got selected to serve the nation as a part of air force. Aksh*t is a true champion. For not only was he good in academics by clearing CAT with 94.8 percentile but also showed immense skill in sports. He is an excellent cricket player who represented BMSCE in most of the matches and brought laurels for himself and this institution.
Coming from a family already into the defence, he has made his family proud and our college proud.
"How do you feel about joining the Indian Airforce?"
"I feel pretty good. I have always dreamt of flying and now I am a step closer to it. Feeling high, Sky high."
"According to you what are the top 3 Reasons to join the armed forces?"
"Firstly, I would like to say that there is one thing that no money can buy, you've got to earn it- 'the Uniform'. Secondly, 'the Respect'โ which comes from within the hearts of millions of Indians. Lastly, the Pride Of standing in front of the entire nation and telling Yes, I have repaid the debt of my motherland !"
"Can you put the requirements and expectations from a candidate in basic terms for armed forces?"
"In armed forces, you will find people from all over India with different religion, culture and beliefs. As an officer in the armed forces you will need to communicate well and clearly to your troops. So, all the activities that are conducted during SSB are just means to check your social adaptability, leadership skills and problem solving skills."
"Being in BMSCE how can a student hone his/her skills to join the armed forces?"
"Well you can help organize events, workshops, seminars, even extra classes. Practice sports. Be a class representative, learn to manage 60-90 people at a time. All of this will work but trust me trying to do everything at once wonโt help you either. Be smart in what you do. BMS is probably the best place to learn outside the textbook."
"How did you manage to achieve this?"
"The opposition i.e, placements was never easy and will never be. Lost a lot of cricket matches initially. Learnt a lot from them. There were some instances when I thought I will get a loose ball but it always turned out to be a Yorker or a bouncer (Laughs). But SSB is not a T-20 match, itโs a test match. One dot ball has least importance. Itโs a one week selection process and you always have time to come back. I have to say being in college cricket team helped a lot. I can never forget the way they backed me in my bad times. I used all my experience and tried to do best for my batch and it worked."
"What work will I do being in armed forces?"
"Work profile in armed forces can vary drastically. From deep see diving to flying at 50,000 feet, anything is possible. From driving a tank in desert to riding a snow mobile in Himalayas, from firing a pistol to using a rocket launcher, itโs difficult to specify your JD. But rest assured, you will have a thrilling career."
"What is your favourite memory of BMS?"
"There are many but it's difficult to pick one. I think that moment when we lifted cricket inter-zonals winner's trophy, it was dream come true. We wanted to win it from the very first year. Its like the world cup of college cricket. We were facing Gokte, Belgaum in the finals. It was going to be my final match in BMSCE whites. Last hope to lift the trophy and be the champions of VTU. To win the finals against a team that knocked us out in semis last year, it felt amazing. Can't describe it in words."
"Any message for juniors?"
"I can only say that there is no better feeling than flying in tri-colors. Which company offers you work place 50000 feet high? There are few other places where so much power and speed are combined for a person in one place. Yes itโs difficult, but so is every other good thing in life. When you join armed forces itโs not for the money, but for the things that lie much above it. Money is just a perk!
I donโt think there is a need to motivate anyone. We all have our own choices to make."
We wish you the very best of luck in all your future endeavours
